Vertiv is an American company that supplies the power and cooling infrastructure data centres depend on, formed in 2016 when Emerson Electric sold its network power division to Platinum Equity. Its products cover uninterruptible power supplies, switchgear and busway, precision air and liquid cooling, racks and the monitoring software that runs them, sold to hyperscale operators, colocation providers and enterprises. Headquartered in Westerville, Ohio and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, it has become one of the most direct beneficiaries of artificial intelligence build-out because dense computing requires liquid cooling it already makes.

Job Summary:

The Director, Engineering Management leads a multi-discipline engineering team responsible for executing engineered-to-order projects and sustaining programs within Vertiv’s Power Management business in the Americas. The leader oversees mechanical and electrical system engineering disciplines - driving on-time engineering release to production while achieving cost, quality, and performance targets.

The role carries accountability for evaluating and developing solutions for customer driven modifications to standard and configured products such as UPS, Battery, PDU, RPP, and STS. Operating in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment, this leader collaborates closely with Product Management, Procurement, Quality, Operations, PMO, and Service to deliver solutions for critical infrastructure applications.

Responsibilities:

Engineering Execution & Change Management

  • Manage Engineered-to-Order and sustaining projects for power management products (UPS, Battery, PDU, RPP, and STS) within Americas region.
  • Own end-to-end engineering change management performance, ensuring Change Orders, Manufacturing Changes, Deviations, and Stop Ships are processed accurately and within target cycle times.
  • Set, track, and report team KPIs including on-time delivery of engineering packages, change order cycle time, VAVE savings, and team capacity utilization.
  • Support Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives to identify and eliminate areas of high cost in products including UPS, batteries, power switching, and distribution equipment.
  • Oversee data integration and analysis supporting project execution, CPQ configurator rules, Bill of Materials (BOM) accuracy, and business application development.

Talent & Organization Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of supervisors and individual contributors; conduct performance reviews, provide improvement feedback, and build succession plans.
  • Recruit, train, and onboard new team members as necessary to maintain team capacity.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Collaborate with operations, supply chain, quality, and manufacturing engineering to ensure seamless design-to-production transitions.
  • Partner with product management and sales to support customer technical engagements as needed.
  • Interface with regulatory and certification team members to ensure product compliance within the market.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline; Electrical Engineering is preferred
  • 10+ years of experience as a technical manager, with a history of progression in managerial roles.
  • Strong project management skills with experience managing multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities.
  • Technical knowledge of 3-phase power systems, UPS products, power switching and distribution equipment, and transformer design fundamentals.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g., fabrication, machining, casting, electronics, or similar)
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, engineering change order processes, and Bill of Materials (BOM) management.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and cost structures
  • Experience developing cross-functional and cross-regional relationships to achieve business objectives
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI), Smartsheet, and other business applications
  • Excellent communications skills - written & verbal
