Position Summary

Provide direction, leadership and support of all simulation and standardized patient activities for School of Medicine students, residents, fellows, PT, OT, nursing, advanced nurse practice students, pharmacy and other health professions students as well as CME/faculty development events at the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center Simulation Center and Standardized Patient Center and the Department of Anesthesiology clinical simulation centers.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Data Quality Assurance - Provides leadership to ensure that simulation programs meet quality assurance standards for education and user expectations, including benchmarking of other medical schools and hospital programs. Collaborate with SP Medical Director and faculty on QA processes to assure data and assessment quality for OSCE sessions (SP raters, faculty, team staff etc.), including tracking SP/student assessment data for accuracy. Coordinate with the Office of Education to ensure learner data is accessible for program evaluation and learner assessment purposes.
• Strategic and Operational Leadership - Provides strategic and operational oversight of the Wood Simulation Center and Standardized Patient Center located in the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center. In collaboration with faculty leaders, develop a vision and strategic plan for the centers and ensure its effective implementation. Create and develop policies and procedures to ensure the effective execution of the mission and operations of the centers.
• Personnel/HR processes - Supervises the Standardized Patient Manager, Standardized Patient Educators, Simulation Technicians, Administrative Coordinators and anesthesia interns on the simulation rotation. Recruit, hire and lead staff to ensure effective maintenance and operations of programs. Provide training, performance appraisal, disciplinary counseling and actions for staff and employees. Assign responsibilities and work tasks to staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
• Financial oversight - Oversight and approval of budgetary expenditures. Manage contracts and relationships with simulation and audio-visual companies. Monitor equipment needs, wear and tear and proactively plan for replacement and purchase of new equipment to align with budgetary cycles. Prepare event cost estimates and proposals. Submit information necessary for invoicing to OE Finance. Prepare budget estimates for proposed WUSM and external client activities. Prepare activity reports.
• Serve as a resource for simulator and learning management system operations. Serve as a back-up for staff as needed, including operating simulators and learning management systems.
• Coordination of Curriculum Design - Collaborate with the Medical Directors on appropriate instructional design and curriculum development for simulation training based on input of faculty for medical students, residents, fellows, team training, inter-professional, advanced practice nursing students and nursing personnel. This activity includes selecting competency domains for training, developing strategies to enhance programs and services, utilizing available resources and acquiring additional tools to create a realistic learning environment. Serve on curricular or other committees.
• Strategic Direction - Provides strategic and operational planning initiatives in support of ILC, including input to OE leadership regarding long range simulation planning, and support to the Department of Anesthesiology’s simulation center.
• Performs other duties as assigned

Salary Range

$75,200.00 - $128,800.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
