About the Role
We are looking for a Junior Data Engineer with practical technical experience and an interest in
financial and business processes. You will support and improve existing production data pipelines,
maintain scripts and integrations, and help ensure that accurate, reliable information is delivered
to Treasury and other departments on time.
This is a hands-on role that combines data engineering, routine data-server administration and
process improvement. You will report to the Executive Head: Group Technology, who will provide
guidance on business priorities, governance and performance oversight. All work will be carried
out within agreed responsibilities and established change-control procedures, with complex
technical matters escalated for appropriate assistance.
Data pipelines and integrations:
- Monitor scheduled ETL/ELT processes and API integrations, investigate failed processing and support safe recovery.
- Understand how source data, transformations and downstream outputs connect.
Scripts and process improvement:
- Read, troubleshoot and maintain existing Python, R and SQL-based processes.
- Build straightforward ingestion, transformation and automation solutions against agreed requirements.
Data quality and Treasury delivery:
- Validate and reconcile datasets, investigate missing or inconsistent information, and support timely delivery of Treasury data, rates, reconciliations and other business outputs.
Data-server support:
- Perform routine Linux and Windows data-server maintenance across on-premise and Azure environments.
- Monitor storage, system health and runtime dependencies, and report resource constraints.
Controlled changes and documentation:
- Test changes before deployment, use Git/version control, maintain processing documentation and support backup and recovery procedures.
- Follow approved access, credential-handling and release requirements.
Business collaboration:
- Engage with departments to understand data needs, identify improvements and communicate progress, exceptions and operational issues clearly.
Minimum requirements and Advantages
Minimum requirements:
- A minimum of 2 years’ relevant practical experience, preferably 3, in data processing, scripting, data pipeline support or related server administration. Practical exposure to production troubleshooting and software/data integration is required.
- A degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or a related technical discipline is preferred. Demonstrably equivalent professional experience in production data engineering, Linux administration and software/data integration will also be considered.
- Practical Python and SQL skills, with working knowledge of R and Bash/Shell scripting, including the ability to understand existing code and investigate processing errors.
- Working knowledge of Linux administration and familiarity with ETL/ELT pipelines, REST/API integrations, scheduled workloads and Git/version control.
- An understanding of data validation, reconciliation, testing, documentation and secure handling of company information.

Advantageous experience:
- Financial or Treasury environments, financial systems, market data, rates, reconciliations or business reporting.
- Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Power Platform, Windows data servers, RStudio Server, Miniconda or Cron scheduling.
- Relevant technical certifications or training in programming, data integration, cloud services or server administration.
- Practical Experience: Gain hands-on exposure to financial technology, data engineering and automation, while strengthening your technical and business understanding.
