Xylem is an American water technology company separated from ITT in 2011 that makes the pumps, treatment systems, meters and analytics used to move, treat and measure water. Its most strategically interesting business is measurement and control: smart water meters and network monitoring that let a utility find leaks, since a substantial share of treated water is lost in distribution before reaching anyone. Headquartered in Washington and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, it acquired Evoqua in 2023 to add industrial water treatment, and its demand is driven by infrastructure renewal and water scarcity rather than by economic growth.

Xylem is a Fortune 500 global water solutions company dedicated to advancing sustainable impact and empowering the people who make water work every day. As a leading water technology company with 23,000 employeesoperatingin over 150 countries, Xylem is at the forefront of addressing the world's most critical water challenges. We invite passionate individuals to join our team, dedicated to exceeding customer expectations through innovative and sustainable solutions.

The Role

Xylem is seeking a Sr. Import and Export Analyst to support global trade operations by ensuring import and export activities are compliant, efficient, and aligned with business needs. In this role, you will manage cross-border shipment processes, support customs compliance activities, maintain accurate trade documentation, and help resolve operational issues that may impact delivery performance or regulatory adherence.

As a senior-level individual contributor, you will leverage your knowledge of international trade operations to independently manage complex issues while collaborating with internal teams and external partners. You will exercise sound judgment, apply industry best practices, work with minimal guidance, and serve as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

Core Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage daily import and export activities to support the timely and compliant movement of goods across international borders.
  • Review shipping and customs documentation for completeness and accuracy, including commercial invoices, packing lists, broker instructions, certificates of origin, customs records, and other trade-related documentation.
  • Partner with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, and internal stakeholders to support shipment execution, monitor customs clearance activity, and resolve shipment exceptions such as delays, holds, missing documentation, classification issues, and customs inquiries.
  • Ensure import and export transactions are processed in accordance with applicable trade laws, regulations, internal procedures, and company compliance requirements.
  • Support trade compliance activities including tariff classification, country of origin reviews, record retention requirements, denied party screening coordination, customs valuation support, and free trade agreement documentation, where applicable.
  • Prepare, analyze, and maintain reports related to shipment activity, service performance, transportation and duty-related costs, and compliance trends to support operational visibility and decision making.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve complex import/export operational and compliance issues by applying knowledge of international trade regulations, transportation processes, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with supply chain, procurement, manufacturing, planning, customer service, finance, and logistics stakeholders to improve trade processes, strengthen compliance controls, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and support standardized processes that improve operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and execution consistency across global trade activities.
  • Serve as a resource for less experienced colleagues by providing guidance on trade processes, documentation requirements, compliance expectations, and problem resolution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Business, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Several years of experience in import/export operations, global logistics, customs compliance, international trade, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating cross-border shipments and supporting international transportation and customs processes.
  • Strong working knowledge of import/export documentation, customs entry processes, international shipment coordination, and trade compliance controls.
  • Experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, and cross-functional business partners in a global environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to independently manage complex issues and determine appropriate resolutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP or related business systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision while exercising sound professional judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or global distribution environment.
  • Knowledge of tariff classification, HTS codes, Incoterms, country of origin determination, customs valuation, trade data analysis, broker management, and multi-country shipping processes.
  • Experience supporting audits, compliance reporting, regulatory recordkeeping, duty optimization initiatives, or broader trade compliance programs.
  • Familiarity with free trade agreements, denied party screening processes, and global import/export regulatory requirements.
  • Professional certifications or advanced training in customs, logistics, supply chain, or international trade.
