Senior Software Engineer - Backend

This role sits within the in-house Software Engineering team building for ZED, working on the development of the ZED mobile applications and web app. The Senior Engineer will own system-level deliverables aligned to the product roadmap, with delivery expected in sprints.

Responsibilities:

• Own refinement and estimation of strategic product roadmap items, and their execution and delivery within an agreed SLA.
• Take responsibility for the overall architecture and stability of the system.
• Mentor other team members and drive continuous improvement in engineering delivery.
• Deliver product tasks agreed within sprint scope at application component level, with high-quality code and scalable, reliable delivery into production.
• Propose and drive engineering best practices and contribute to engineering excellence.
• Work with product and design teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Actively participate in code reviews and work with team members to raise the bar.
• Consistently write production-ready code that is easily testable.
• Participate in the on-call rotation and respond to production incidents within the defined SLA.
• Stay up to date and close to the competitive technology landscape.
• Own and improve the overall system architecture with the latest tech stack.
• No direct reports, but responsible for mentoring within the team to clarify product requirements and ensure smooth execution.
• Own communication with external vendors within the scope of the assigned product task.
• Raise the bar of existing applications in terms of engineering practices.
• Conduct tech research and knowledge-sharing activities to stay up to date with industry standards.

Requirements:

• More than 5 years of experience in a backend platform such as Node.js .
• Strong experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Sentry, New Relic and the AWS stack.
• Experience building complex, scalable and high-quality applications, with strong knowledge of microservice architecture.
• Good experience and knowledge of different databases (PostgreSQL and NoSQL).
• Strong knowledge of source control, preferably Git.
• 5+ years of backend development experience.
• Backend stack development at high-traffic scale, especially in the ride-hailing domain.
