Software Engineer - DevOps

This role sits within the in-house Software Engineering team building for ZED, with specific ownership of the deployment of the ZED mobile applications and web app. The role bridges development and operations, ensuring applications are delivered quickly, securely and with high availability - contributing directly to the organisation's agility and competitiveness.

The candidate will have responsibilities across the following functions:

Infrastructure and Platform:

• Containerise applications using Docker and manage orchestration on Kubernetes.
• Utilise AWS services such as EKS, Lambda and S3 to deliver efficient, scalable infrastructure solutions.
• Implement auto-scaling mechanisms that dynamically adjust resources to workload demand.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices to manage and version infrastructure configurations.

Delivery and Operations:

• Use automation to streamline routine tasks such as provisioning and scaling resources.
• Establish clear change management processes to prevent unauthorised changes to production environments.
• Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to maintain a secure infrastructure.
• Set up centralised logging and monitoring solutions for real-time visibility into system health.

Collaboration and Improvement:

• Partner with development teams to design, implement and manage CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues.
• Lead the development and maintenance of monitoring and logging systems to ensure application performance and stability.
• Identify and implement best practices for security, reliability and performance in cloud-based environments.

Requirements:

• Strong proficiency in GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps for automating CI/CD pipelines.
• Solid understanding of Docker containers and Kubernetes orchestration.
• Expertise in AWS services including EKS, Lambda and S3 with familiarity across other cloud providers.
• In-depth knowledge of auto-scaling concepts and their implementation.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• 4+ years of software development and server management experience.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
