Zillow Group is a Seattle-headquartered online real estate marketplace whose apps and websites let people search homes for sale and rent, estimate property values with the Zestimate and connect with agents, lenders and landlords. Founded in 2006 by former Microsoft and Expedia executives including Rich Barton and Lloyd Frink, the Nasdaq-listed company also runs Zillow Home Loans, Zillow Closing, rentals and advertising businesses, with engineering teams in Bengaluru and Mexico City. It recruits software and machine learning engineers, data scientists, product managers, mortgage loan officers, underwriting and closing staff, and sales and marketing specialists.

About the team

Studio Z, Zillow's in-house creative agency, is seeking a senior editor to lead our Content team's work in search and AI-powered discovery. We develop engaging content that helps consumers and real estate professionals achieve their goals - from in-depth articles to snappy email copy to video scripts and social posts. We embody the Zillow core values of transparency, integrity, and putting customers first. To thrive here, you'll also need a good dose of empathy and a sense of humor.

About the role

This role will plan, edit, and publish a large volume of consumer-facing educational articles that guide people through buying, selling, renting, and financing a home - and help Zillow show up as a trusted source in AI tools like ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews, as well as in traditional organic search. You'll own the editorial calendar for this program, turning topic priorities into clear assignments, guiding a bench of contract writers, and making the final call on accuracy, clarity, and brand alignment. You'll also help shape how our team uses AI tools to research, draft, and fact-check at scale, while keeping an expert human touch on everything we publish. Your rigorous, thoughtful editing will make Zillow the most helpful and trustworthy voice on people's most complex housing questions.

This is a full-time, remote, individual contributor role based in the US, reporting to the director of Studio Z Content.

You'll get to:

  • Own a high-volume editorial program - hundreds of articles a year on financing, home buying, renting, local markets, and more - from planning through publishing.
  • Build and manage an editorial calendar that balances business priorities, search and AI visibility opportunities, and content freshness.
  • Assign, edit, and guide the work of staff and contract writers, giving clear, constructive feedback that raises quality and consistency across the program.
  • Partner with Zillow's Traffic and SEO team to turn search and AI visibility insights into topics, outlines, and optimizations - and track how the content performs.
  • Work with Zillow’s Economic Research team to craft insightful, accessible, and accurate guides to housing market data and trends using Zillow tools.
  • Shepherd content through expert, legal, and compliance reviews, especially on mortgage and financing topics, keeping work accurate and on schedule.
  • Help pioneer AI-assisted workflows for outlining, drafting, and fact-checking, while ensuring every asset meets our standards for accuracy and brand voice.
  • Build understanding and empathy for the challenges facing Americans who are looking to buy, sell, finance, and rent homes in a complex market.

Who you are

  • A seasoned editor who has owned a content vertical on complex real estate and financing topics, and knows how to make detailed guidance clear, accurate, and actionable.
  • A meticulous researcher and fact-checker who holds every claim to a high standard and can serve as the last set of eyes on a piece before it's published.
  • An organized, decisive program owner who can run a large editorial calendar, juggle many stakeholders and deadlines, and make sound editorial calls independently.
  • A search-savvy strategist who understands how SEO and generative engine optimization (GEO) shape content, and uses performance data to improve your work and communicate its value.
  • A curious adopter of AI tools who sees them as a way to scale high-quality work, not replace it.
  • A kind, fun colleague who enjoys collaborating with other creatives and learning new things while making work we can all be proud of.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years of related experience, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience editing detailed consumer guidance on complex real estate and financing topics, including owning a content vertical that covers these subjects.
  • Top-notch editorial skills, including writing, editing, research, fact-checking, and editorial calendar management.
  • Deep experience finding and telling consumer-friendly stories using data. Familiarity with housing market data is a plus.
  • Experience assigning and editing the work of freelance or contract writers.
  • Experience creating and optimizing content for search. Familiarity with GEO and AI search visibility is a strong plus.
