The Infrastructure Engineering team is focused on building the core platforms and tooling that power modern software delivery across the organization. We work on high-impact engineering problems spanning cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, automation, developer experience, and reliability. Our team combines strong software engineering with deep systems expertise, creating tools and services that make it easier for other engineers to build, ship, and run great software.About the role
- Architect, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and highly available backend services and APIs that power Zillow applications and platforms.
- Lead design and implementation of backend solutions that optimize performance, reliability, and observability for large-scale, distributed systems running in containerized and cloud environments (e.g., Kubernetes-based platforms).
- Collaborate with product, front-end, data, and machine learning teams to translate requirements into robust technical designs and end-to-end solutions, providing technical guidance on trade-offs and integration patterns.
- Implement and uphold engineering best practices, including automated testing, code review, CI/CD, instrumentation, and operational runbooks, to ensure high-quality, maintainable services over time.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across services and data flows, conducting root cause analysis and driving systemic improvements to reduce incidents and improve system resilience.
- Mentor other engineers through code and design reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing, helping to elevate backend engineering standards and practices across the team.

Who you are
Must Have Skills.
- Strong software engineering skills, with the ability to design, build, test, and maintain production-quality code
- Proficiency in Go and/or Python for building infrastructure tools, services, and automation
- Strong experience with AWS and cloud infrastructure in production environments
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerized application platforms
- Strong Linux systems knowledge, including troubleshooting, scripting, performance analysis, and systems debugging
- Experience building internal tools, platform services, or automation frameworks
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and software delivery automation
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code and declarative infrastructure management
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, networking, security, and observability
- Ability to troubleshoot across the stack, from application and runtime issues to containers, networks, and cloud services
- Strong collaboration skills and experience working with peers across software engineering, DevOps, and systems engineering
- Ability to translate operational and infrastructure needs into scalable software solutions
- Experience with Terraform, Helm, Docker, and related cloud-native tooling.
Nice to Have
- Experience building or supporting internal developer platforms
- Familiarity with service mesh, secrets management, and policy enforcement
- Experience designing APIs, CLIs, operators, or controllers for infrastructure platforms
- Knowledge of observability tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or similar platforms
- Experience supporting multi-cluster Kubernetes environments
- Background in platform engineering, site reliability engineering, or production engineering
- Experience improving developer experience through self-service tooling and automation
- Familiarity with cloud security best practices and secure infrastructure design, including AWS Identity & Access Management (IAM)
- Experience leading technical initiatives, mentoring peers, or influencing engineering standards across teams
