Your Impact on our Mission
As a Senior Staff Software Engineer in the Interoperability group, you will unlock the full potential of our integrations with 170+ EHRs. These integrations enable Zocdoc to pull real-time availability, write back bookings to trigger practice workflows, and exchange appointment data - insurance cards, medical history, and intake forms - between patients and providers. Your leadership will expand their impact across our entire product ecosystem.
Our platform is at an inflection point. New product lines require us to move from eventually-consistent syncs to tighter, fail-fast integrations - a major rearchitecture that you will lead. EHR systems also hold valuable data we've only begun to tap: insurance credentialing, provider onboarding signals, patient LTV and more. You will shape both the technical strategy and contribute to the product vision for how we leverage this data.
You will develop clear abstractions that let other engineering teams leverage our integration capabilities without understanding the inner workings of individual EHRs. You'll bring order to immense complexity and translate it into simple, powerful interfaces.
You will partner with senior product, engineering, and business leaders to define strategic priorities and influence architectural decisions across multiple teams. You will mentor engineers, guide teams through ambiguity, and establish best practices that improve reliability and scalability across our integration stack.

Your day to day is…
- Taking ultimate technical ownership of Zocdoc’s interoperability technical strategy
- Building solutions that scale to serve Zocdoc’s largest, most complex customers.
- Driving the rearchitecture of our sync framework to support real-time, fail-fast integration patterns
- Designing abstractions that hide EHR-specific complexity and expose clean, consistent capabilities to product teams
- Analyzing and decomposing complex product challenges to drive sound design decisions
- Working hands-on with your team and shipping production code using C#, AWS technologies, React to millions of users autonomously
- Collaborating with our agile team of dedicated and brilliant engineers, product managers, and designers
- Upleveling the interop engineering team through coaching, code reviews, and establishing patterns that the team can follow
- Continuously improving our ability to deliver quality solutions through evolving engineering processes, building technical capabilities and driving strategic investments in our platforms.
You’ll be successful in this role if you have…
- Successfully architected and shipped high-impact, complex, solutions and frameworks, with experience working across multiple areas of the technology stack and complex system integrations.
- Experience building platforms or frameworks that abstract complexity for other engineering teams - you know how to design APIs and interfaces that are a joy to use.
- Demonstrated history of solid and well rounded system design and architectural leadership skills
- A product mindset - you think beyond the technical implementation to how capabilities translate into customer value.
- Improved developer productivity, efficiency and velocity by setting up and evangelizing best practices for coding, testing, deployment, observability and developer tooling.
- Successfully mentored other engineers in the past and have encouraged your peers to use engineering best practices
- Been an outstanding and persuasive communicator capable of delving into technical project details and facilitating technical discussions while also being adept at presenting solutions at an appropriate level of abstraction for a diverse cross-functional audience, including non-technical stakeholders.
- A growth mindset and inspire excellence, acting as a multiplier for your team and the broader engineering organization.
- Experience successfully working with a distributed workforce preferred.
- 10+ years of significant expertise in backend development. Strong understanding of OO Fundamentals. Experience within AWS environments and a high emphasis on testing is a plus

Base salary offered is determined by a number of factors including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and skills. Certain positions are also eligible for variable pay and/or equity; your recruiter will discuss the full compensation package details.
NYC Base Salary Range
$201,400—$304,000 USD
