Overview
Aave is a decentralised lending protocol, developed by the London-based company Avara, that lets users supply crypto assets to earn yield and borrow against them without an intermediary. Started in 2017 as the peer-to-peer lender ETHLend and relaunched under its current name in 2018, the protocol pioneered variable and stable interest rate markets, flash loans and cross-chain liquidity pools. Governance sits with holders of the AAVE token, and the wider Avara portfolio now also includes the GHO stablecoin, the Lens social protocol and consumer wallet products.
