Overview
Apptronik is an American robotics company founded in 2016 out of the Human Centered Robotics Laboratory at the University of Texas, and it develops Apollo, a general-purpose humanoid robot for logistics and manufacturing work. Its engineering heritage is in actuators: the team spent years building the force-controlled actuators that let a robot work safely alongside people, which is a different problem from position-controlled industrial arms behind a cage. Headquartered in Austin and backed by Google and Mercedes-Benz among others, it is piloting Apollo with manufacturers and logistics operators rather than selling it openly.
