Avito is a Russian classifieds platform founded in 2007 by the Swedish entrepreneurs Jonas Nordlander and Filip Engelbert, modelled on the Blocket marketplace they had built in Sweden. It became the dominant place to buy and sell almost anything in Russia, spanning secondhand goods, cars, property, services and jobs, and now handles a large share of the country's used-goods commerce. Headquartered in Moscow, the platform has layered logistics, escrow payments, verified seller programmes and paid promotion tools on top of the free listing model, and passed into Russian ownership after Naspers sold its majority stake in 2022.
