Overview
Cambricon Technologies is a Chinese semiconductor company founded in Beijing in 2016 as a spin-out from the Institute of Computing Technology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It designs processors dedicated to machine learning, and its Siyuan accelerator line has become the most prominent domestic alternative to foreign GPUs for training and inference inside China. The company sells accelerator cards, server-side systems and edge chips together with its NeuWare software stack, listed on the Shanghai STAR Market in 2020, and has been a direct beneficiary of United States export controls pushing Chinese buyers toward local silicon.
