CARIAD is the automotive software company inside Volkswagen Group, created in 2020 to build one shared electronics and software stack for all of its brands instead of a different one per model line. It develops the E3 vehicle architecture, the VW.OS operating system, connectivity and app platforms, and automated driving functions intended to run across Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Skoda and Cupra vehicles. Headquartered in Wolfsburg with sites across Germany, China, the United States and India, the unit has been restructured repeatedly after delivery delays and now works alongside partners including Rivian, Bosch, Horizon Robotics and Xpeng.
