Overview
POET is a privately held bioethanol and bioproducts company headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, that converts corn and other renewable resources into biofuel, distillers grains, corn oil and captured carbon dioxide. Founded in 1987 with a single plant in Scotland, South Dakota, it has grown into the largest bioethanol producer in the world, operating dozens of biorefineries across the US Midwest and Ohio along with its own marketing and trading business. It hires plant, laboratory, maintenance and instrumentation technicians, material handlers, CO2 tanker drivers, terminal operators, accountants, IT analysts and summer interns.
