GCP AlloyDB PostgreSQL Architect

Job Description :

We are looking for an experienced GCP AlloyDB PostgreSQL Architect with 10 - 18 years of experience to design and govern scalable, secure, and highly available application and database architectures. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in Google Cloud Platform, AlloyDB for PostgreSQL, PostgreSQL internals, database performance engineering, cloud migration, and high-availability architectures.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design and govern end-to-end application, database, and cloud architectures aligned with business and technical requirements.

- Design scalable and highly available GCP AlloyDB for PostgreSQL environments, including multi-region architectures.

- Lead database modernization, cloud migration, and application transformation initiatives.

- Perform advanced database performance analysis and optimization, including query tuning, indexing, execution plans, locking, transactions, and VACUUM/Autovacuum.

- Design and implement HA, disaster recovery, replication, backup, and multi-region strategies.

- Troubleshoot complex database performance, scalability, availability, and reliability issues.

- Define architecture standards covering security, networking, DevOps, observability, performance, and operational reliability.

- Evaluate existing database and application architectures and recommend modernization and optimization opportunities.

- Conduct architecture reviews and ensure adherence to enterprise architecture and security standards.

- Collaborate with application developers, DBAs, DevOps, Cloud, Security, and infrastructure teams.

- Provide technical leadership and mentor engineering and database teams on PostgreSQL and cloud-native architecture best practices.

- Create architecture documentation, technical designs, migration plans, and operational guidelines.

Required Skills :

- 10+ years of overall IT experience, with at least 3+ years in Application, Solution, or Technical Architecture roles.

- Strong hands-on expertise in PostgreSQL and database internals.

- Proven experience with GCP AlloyDB for PostgreSQL in production environments.

- Strong understanding of PostgreSQL performance engineering and troubleshooting.

- Hands-on experience with :

1. Query optimization and execution plans

2. EXPLAIN / EXPLAIN ANALYZE

3. Indexing strategies

4. Locking and concurrency

5. Transactions and isolation levels

6. VACUUM / Autovacuum

7. Connection and resource management

- Strong knowledge of GCP cloud architecture, including compute, networking, storage, IAM, monitoring, and security services.

- Experience designing High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR), replication, backup, and multi-region database architectures.

- Proven experience in database migration and modernization to GCP/AlloyDB.

- Strong understanding of cloud-native application architecture, microservices, APIs, and distributed systems.

- Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and observability practices.

- Strong architecture documentation, stakeholder management, and technical leadership skills.

Preferred Skills :

- Experience migrating databases from Oracle, on-premises PostgreSQL, or other relational databases to AlloyDB.

- Knowledge of Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and containerized application architectures.

- Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools.

- Familiarity with Google Cloud monitoring, logging, and database observability tools.

- Experience with PostgreSQL replication, logical replication, and database migration tools.

- GCP or PostgreSQL certifications are an advantage.

- Experience working on large-scale enterprise or regulated environments.
