AirAsia MOVE is looking for a Staff Frontend Engineer (React.js ) to own the architecture, performance, and reliability of our web booking and travel platform. As a senior individual contributor, you will drive architectural decisions across our web applications, partner closely with backend, cloud, design, and product teams, and help deliver fast, seamless travel and payment experiences to millions of users across Southeast Asia. This role calls for deep expertise in React.js, modern web architecture, rendering strategy, performance optimisation, and large-scale consumer web engineering.
The candidate will have responsibilities across the following functions:
Architecture and Technical Leadership:
- Define and evolve the frontend architecture strategy for AirAsia MOVE's web platform.
- Design scalable, maintainable, high-performing React.js applications, including server-side rendering (SSR/SSG/ISR), which improves performance and SEO.
- Establish a shared component library/design system and a sane micro-frontend or monorepo strategy as the web surface grows.
- Drive system architecture discussions spanning web, backend, cloud, and platform engineering.
- Lead technical design reviews and provide architectural guidance on critical initiatives.
Performance and Scalability:
- Optimise Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS), bundle size, code-splitting, and caching strategy.
- Design for traffic spikes, flash sales, peak booking seasons, and campaign launches.
- Implement monitoring, real-user monitoring (RUM), and performance measurement frameworks.
- Drive initiatives that improve site stability, reliability, and conversion-relevant UX.
Cloud and Backend Collaboration:
- Partner with backend and cloud teams to design robust APIs, BFF layers, and CDN/edge strategy.
- Contribute to end-to-end solution architecture spanning frontend, backend, and cloud.
- Ensure seamless integration between the web app and distributed backend systems.
Security, Quality and Deployment:
- Champion web security best practices (XSS, CSRF, secure auth flows) and secure coding standards.
- Drive security testing, vulnerability remediation, and compliance requirements.
- Establish automated testing (unit, integration, e2e), QA, and release management practices.
- Own CI/CD pipelines, feature flagging, and canary/blue-green deployment strategy.
Analytics and Data:
- Partner with analytics teams on tracking, instrumentation, and conversion funnel measurement.
- Enable data-driven decisions through robust analytics and experimentation (A/B testing) frameworks.
- Ensure accurate event tracking, SEO instrumentation, and performance metrics collection.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with Trust & Safety, Security, Product, Design, Backend, Cloud, and Platform teams.
- Influence technical roadmaps and drive alignment across engineering organisations.
- Mentor engineers and raise the bar on engineering excellence.
Requirements:
- 8-12 years of software engineering experience, including 6+ years building production React.js applications.
- Proven track record operating as a Senior or Staff-level individual contributor.
- Strong expertise in React.js, modern JavaScript, and TypeScript.
- Deep understanding of web application architecture, rendering strategies (CSR/SSR/SSG/ISR), and browser performance.
- Experience building and scaling high-traffic consumer web applications.
- Strong grounding in web performance optimisation (Core Web Vitals) and frontend engineering best practices.
- Experience integrating web apps with backend services, APIs, and cloud-native platforms.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD, deployment automation, and release management.
- Strong understanding of web security, authentication, authorisation, and accessibility (WCAG).
- Experience implementing analytics and experimentation frameworks.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in Super Apps, payments, e-commerce, or travel platforms.
- Experience with Next.js or similar SSR frameworks, and/or micro-frontend architectures.
- Knowledge of AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Experience with observability, monitoring (RUM/APM), and performance tooling.
- Experience in globally distributed engineering teams.
