AMD

AMD is an American semiconductor company founded in 1969 and headquartered in Santa Clara, California, that designs processors, graphics chips and adaptive computing hardware without owning fabrication plants. Its Ryzen and Threadripper processors and Radeon graphics serve consumers and creators, EPYC server chips have taken a large share of the data centre market from Intel, and the Instinct accelerators compete for AI training and inference workloads. The 2022 acquisition of Xilinx added field-programmable gate arrays and adaptive systems on chip, and the company also supplies the custom silicon inside the PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

Whether you’re designing next-gen processors, enabling AI breakthroughs, or bringing leading edge products to market, every role at AMD contributes to something bigger - technology that moves the world forward. Join us and, together, we’ll advance your career.

THE ROLE:

We are looking for an experienced Program Manager to join a fast-paced software development organization delivering solutions for some of AMD’s key customers. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, customer engagement, and program execution, partnering across development, firmware, hardware, manufacturing, and business teams to drive successful customer programs from requirements through delivery.

The team works in an environment that increasingly leverages AI-assisted code development to accelerate software solutions. In this highly visible role, you will work directly with engineering teams and customers to understand requirements, establish execution plans, manage software deliverables, identify and mitigate risks, and keep complex programs moving forward.

This is an opportunity to work across technologies and organizations, build relationships throughout AMD and with customers, and play an important role in delivering the software and technology that enable next-generation computing and AI solutions.

THE PERSON:

You are a self-directed, highly collaborative program leader who is comfortable operating in a complex and dynamic engineering environment. You can move comfortably between technical discussions, customer conversations, and executive-level communication while keeping teams aligned on priorities and deliverables.

You bring strong analytical, problem-solving, presentation, and risk-management skills, along with a high level of ownership and attention to detail. You know how to build relationships across teams, influence without direct authority, navigate differing viewpoints, and drive issues toward resolution.

You are also curious about evolving technology and comfortable working with software teams that incorporate AI-assisted development tools into their workflows.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define, plan, and drive software projects and program plans in partnership with engineering, program leadership, and customers.
  • Partner with customers to understand platform and software requirements and translate those needs into actionable engineering plans, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Drive software releases and customer program deliverables while coordinating dependencies across software, firmware, hardware, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Create and maintain program management artifacts, including schedules, resource forecasts, risk and issue logs, action plans, and program status reporting.
  • Identify technical and program risks early, develop mitigation strategies, and drive cross-functional teams toward resolution.
  • Facilitate communication and alignment across development teams, customers, business units, product management, and other key stakeholders.
  • Collect, analyze, organize, and communicate program performance data through dashboards, status reports, and executive-level updates.
  • Identify opportunities to improve existing processes, team efficiency, communication, and program execution.
  • Build strong working relationships across the organization and create alignment among teams with competing priorities or perspectives.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the team’s software development environment, customers, products, and processes, progressing toward independent ownership of programs and customer deliverables.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong understanding of software development, software design principles, and the software development lifecycle.
  • Technical program management experience supporting software development and customer-facing programs.
  • Experience managing software releases, engineering schedules, dependencies, deliverables, risks, and issues.
  • Experience working in cross-functional or matrixed engineering organizations.
  • Strong customer relationship management skills with the ability to translate customer needs into actionable engineering requirements.
  • Experience collaborating with software engineering, firmware, hardware, manufacturing, product management, and business teams.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted software or code development environments and tools.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and risk-management skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively across technical teams and executive-level stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority and drive teams toward decisions and execution.
  • Strong sense of ownership with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Office Suite, or similar productivity and program management tools.
  • Familiarity with hardware technologies and manufacturing processes is a plus.
  • People management experience is desirable.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
  • Formal project management education or certifications such as PMP or Scrum Master are desired.
