Job Description / Roles & Responsibilities

Astroscale is seeking a Junior Cloud Architectwho will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of our AWS cloud environment while progressively taking on cloud architecture and design responsibilities.

This is a development-oriented position intended for candidates who possess foundational AWS infrastructure knowledge and aspire to grow into a Cloud Architect role in the future.

After joining the company, you will begin by learning and supporting the existing AWS environment. While handling day-to-day infrastructure operations, you will participate in architecture design activities under the guidance of senior team members. You will also gradually expand your responsibilities in managing and operating Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform.

By deepening your technical expertise, architecture design capabilities, and business understanding, you will be expected to grow into a Cloud Architectrole over time.

Key Responsibilities

AWS Infrastructure Operations

• Understand, operate, and support the AWS environment.
• Administer and maintain the following AWS services:
  • Amazon EC2
  • Amazon VPC
  • AWS IAM
  • Amazon S3
  • Security Groups
  • Amazon Route 53
  • VPN and connectivity infrastructure
  • Other related infrastructure services
• Assist with AWS environment provisioning.
• Configuration management.
• Infrastructure monitoring.
• Incident response and troubleshooting.
• Patch management.
• Backup and restore operations.
• Day-to-day operational support and maintenance.

Documentation Management

Maintain and update documentation to improve visibility and operational efficiency of the AWS environment, including:

• System architecture diagrams
• Operational procedures (Runbooks)
• Change logs
• Asset inventory and configuration management records

Cloud Architecture Support

Collaborate with Cloud Architects and Senior Engineers to support the design of AWS architectures that deliver:

• Security
• High availability
• Fault tolerance
• High performance
• Cost optimization

Additional responsibilities include:

• Participating in architecture reviews
• Contributing to technical planning activities
• Conducting Proofs of Concept (PoCs)
• Supporting cloud migration projects
• Reviewing existing AWS environments and recommending improvements in:
  • Reliability
  • Security
  • Performance
  • Maintainability
  • Cost efficiency

Terraform & Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

• Develop an understanding of the existing Terraform environment, including:
  • Module structure and management
  • State management
  • Variable management
  • Deployment workflows
• Modify and improve Terraform code through a review-based development process.
• Support infrastructure standardization and version control.
• Gradually take ownership of Terraform environment maintenance and enhancement.
• Participate in safe infrastructure change management processes, including:
  • Change planning
  • Peer reviews
  • Testing
  • Rollback planning
  • Documentation updates
• Improve operational efficiency through automation and scripting.
• Enhance operational processes using Git-based workflows.

Reliability, Security & Communication

• Monitor cloud resources and infrastructure.
• Investigate incidents and service disruptions.
• Respond to operational incidents.
• Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
• Implement preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
• Apply AWS security best practices, including:
  • Least-privilege IAM design
  • Network segmentation
  • Encryption
  • Log management
  • Secure access controls
• Collaborate with IT, Security, Application, and Business teams.
• Document technical decisions and architecture rationale.
• Escalate risks and issues proactively when necessary.

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of hands-on experience in IT infrastructure, cloud operations, systems administration, DevOps, or related fields.
• Practical experience and knowledge of key AWS services:
  • Amazon EC2
  • Amazon VPC
  • AWS IAM
  • Amazon S3
  • Security Groups
  • Amazon Route 53
  • Amazon CloudWatch
• Foundational networking knowledge.
• Basic understanding of cloud architecture principles:
  • Availability
  • Scalability
  • Resilience
  • Security
  • Cost optimization
• Foundational experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform experience preferred).
• Experience using Git.
• Experience working in Pull Request / Merge Request-based development workflows.
• Ability to investigate incidents and analyze logs.
• Experience performing operational tasks according to Runbooks and documented procedures.
• Strong documentation skills.
• Self-motivated with a strong willingness to learn.
• Experience maintaining architecture diagrams, SOPs, change records, and asset inventories.
• Business-level proficiency in either Japanese or English.
• Basic conversational ability in the other language, with a commitment to ongoing language development.
• Ability to support occasional evening or weekend maintenance activities when required.

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS Certifications such as:
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate
  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
  • Or currently working toward obtaining these certifications
• Experience operating Terraform in a team environment, including:
  • Module management
  • Remote State management
  • Provider version control
  • Code review processes
• Understanding of the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
• Experience with AWS networking technologies:
  • VPN
  • Hybrid connectivity

• Experience with monitoring and logging platforms:

本ポジションは、AWSインフラの基礎知識を持ち、将来的にクラウドアーキテクトへの成長を目指す方を対象とした育成型ポジションです。

入社後は現在のAWS環境の理解と運用サポートからスタートし、日々のインフラ運用を担当しながら、シニアメンバーの指導のもとでアーキテクチャ設計に参画していただきます。また、Terraformを活用したInfrastructure as Code（IaC）の運用・管理についても徐々に責任範囲を広げていただきます。
