Controller / Project Controller (m/f/d)

Your mission

To strengthen our Finance team, we are looking for an experienced and hands-on Controller / Project Controller (m/f/d). In this role, you will combine traditional corporate controlling with operational project controlling, creating transparency around cost development, project performance, profitability, and financial risks. Working closely with Project Managers, Business Unit Leads, Accounting, and Group Finance, you will support informed decision-making and contribute to the financial steering of both our company and our projects.

Your focus will be on analysing costs, budgets, and forecasts, while continuously developing and improving our controlling and reporting structures.

Your Responsibilities

• You will be responsible for ongoing cost and cost centre controlling, including the analysis of cost developments and variances.
• You will prepare budgets, forecasts, and regular management reports, supporting the company's planning processes.
• You will analyse cost structures, profitability, and key performance indicators, identifying opportunities for optimisation and cost savings.
• You will continuously develop our KPIs as well as controlling and reporting standards.
• You will provide commercial support for projects throughout the entire project lifecycle.
• You will analyse project budgets, actual costs, commitments, revenues, margins, and cash flows.
• You will prepare and validate project forecasts, including Estimate at Completion (EAC) and Percentage of Completion (PoC).
• You will monitor project financial performance, analyse variances, and work with stakeholders to implement appropriate corrective actions.
• You will proactively identify financial and commercial risks as well as opportunities within projects.
• You will collaborate closely with Project Managers and Business Unit Leads, supporting them in the financial management of their projects.
• You will support monthly and annual closing activities in close cooperation with the Accounting team.
• You will assist with accruals, provisions, revenue recognition, and both internal and group-wide reporting.
• You will ensure consistent alignment between Controlling and Financial Accounting.
• You will actively contribute to the further development and standardisation of our finance and controlling processes.

Your profile

• A degree in Business Administration, Finance, Controlling, or a comparable qualification.
• Several years of professional experience in controlling, ideally with a focus on cost controlling and project controlling.
• Strong expertise in budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, and variance analysis.
• A solid understanding of project costing, profitability, cash flow management, and key financial performance indicators.
• Experience with project forecasting, including Estimate at Completion (EAC) and Percentage of Completion (PoC) methodologies.
• Good knowledge of accounting standards under both German GAAP (HGB) and IFRS.
• A strong understanding of the interfaces between controlling, project management, and financial accounting.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP and reporting systems; Power BI knowledge is considered an advantage.
• An analytical, structured, and solution-oriented approach, combined with a willingness to take ownership and responsibility.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial matters to a wide range of stakeholders.
• Fluent German and English language skills, both written and spoken.
