Job Overview

The British Council in Thailand has three offices, two teaching centres in Bangkok and works with a number of partner schools in Bangkok and Chiang Mai and plays an important role in strengthening UK-Thailand connections through English, education, exams, arts, creative industries and society. Our teaching centres offer English courses for adults and young learners, alongside programmes delivered through partner schools.

As a Senior Teacher, you will be part of a professional teaching community committed to teaching excellence, learner success and continuous professional development. With nearly 90 years of experience, highly qualified teachers and established teaching methodologies, the British Council provides a collaborative environment where you can inspire learners, support teachers and contribute to excellence in teaching.

Role Purpose

To drive teaching excellence and academic quality by leading teacher development and providing professional support within the teaching centre. The role will promote high-quality teaching and effective learning, creating rewarding and stimulating English language experiences for learners, while contributing to the wider aims and cultural relations mission of the British Council.

Role Accountabilities

Support and develop teachers through effective line management, observations, mentoring and professional development, while ensuring teaching meets the British Council’s global teaching standards. Contribute to CPD programmes, demonstrate and promote effective classroom practice, and share current ELT knowledge and best practices. Deliver high-quality English language teaching that meets the needs of diverse learners, while supporting the implementation and development of teaching products and frameworks. Work collaboratively with Teaching Operations, Customer Services and other teams to enhance the learner experience, while championing safeguarding, EDI and SEND and contributing to the wider academic and cultural objectives of the British Council.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Cambridge CELTA, Trinity CertTESOL or equivalent TEFLi qualification
  • Recognised EFL teaching diploma such as DELTA, Trinity DipTESOL or equivalent TEFLq qualification
  • Relevant Young Learner (YL) qualification, where applicable, such as TYLEC, PGCE/BEd in Primary Education or a relevant subject
  • 2 years post-diploma i.e. DELTA/Trinity Diploma TESOL (or equivalent qualification) experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of management and delivery of teacher training.
  • Experience of line managing/ coordinating teaching teams.
  • Experience in teaching relevant age groups
    • Early Years aged 2 to 5 (400+hours).
    • Primary aged 6 to 10 (400+ hours).
    • Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (800+ hours).
    • Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (400+ hours).
    • University/Vocational students aged 18 to 25 (400+hours).
    • Experience of teaching in the school system desirable.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary: Basic monthly between THB 84,000 - THB 105,000 (depending on qualification and work experience).
  • Annual Leave: Annual paid leave is 35 days.
  • Medical Allowances: Group Medical Insurance coverage.
  • Settling-in allowance:(if you are recruited from outside Thailand) - Equal to 3 weeks' salary for an accompanied employee and equal to 2 weeks' salary for the unaccompanied employee. Separate Rent loans for expat / overseas recruited teachers and then are deducted from salary.
  • Flight: Economy-class return flights for the employee and eligible accompanying family members, including an inbound flight at the start of employment and an outbound flight to the home country upon successful completion of the employment, subject to the applicable policy.
  • Baggage allowance : (if you are recruited from outside Thailand) One-time accountable Baggage Allowance £1,200 for single employees and £ 2,000 for accompanied.

  • Work location: Bangkok, Thailand
  • Contract Duration: 24 Months
  • Work Schedule : The work schedule for this role will be Mon-Fri, but the overall teaching operation in Thailand is seven days a week.
  • Local restrictions on employment: Applicants must have the right to work in Thailand. Candidates are expected to have researched whether they have the right to live and work in the country in which the role is based. Given that our offices have different legal statuses depending on the work we do in those countries, we recommend that you contact HR in the country for additional information on the likelihood of securing a visa. Only at its discretion will the British Council provide support so please check first whether visa support is offered.
