Job Description
We are seeking a senior client-facing role requiring deep expertise in Japanese life insurance business, core policy administration, mainframe applications, business analysis, regulatory requirements and Japanese stakeholder management at clients in the insurance (especially life insurance) industry.
Client & Stakeholder Management:
Act as an onsite Business Systems Analyst for the client’s core insurance applications, building trusted relationships with business, insurance operations, testing and production-support stakeholders.
Lead requirements for workshops, process reviews, issue discussions, and user acceptance activities.
Life Insurance Business Analysis:
Analyze insurance products, policy provisions, business procedures and operational controls
Identify how a requested change affects policyholders, distribution channels and downstream reporting.
Engage business and operations subject-matter experts to clarify intent, uncover implicit rules and convert operational knowledge into durable functional specifications, process flows, data definitions and acceptance criteria.
Job Description - Grade Specific
Core Insurance and Mainframe Application Analysis:
Clarify that the principal application landscape for this role is hosted on IBM mainframe technology. Perform functional and application impact analysis across COBOL programs, JCL and batch schedules, CICS transactions, DB2 databases, VSAM files, copybooks, interfaces and related upstream and downstream systems.
Trace business requirements through application components and controls, working closely with mainframe designers, developers, and QA engineers. Technical coding is not the primary responsibility, but sufficient mainframe literacy is essential.
Requirements, Testing and Delivery:
Produce and maintain BRDs, functional specifications and impact analyses, acceptance criteria and end-to-end traceability.
Support backlog refinement, estimation, and solution design. Review functional and technical designs to confirm alignment with business intent.
Define business scenarios and support SIT, batch-cycle testing, regression testing and UAT. Review test coverage and results, coordinate defect clarification, and support release readiness, production validation and post-implementation review.
Work within Agile, Waterfall or hybrid delivery models while maintaining the documentation, approvals and control evidence.
Pairing, Knowledge Management and Onsite-Offshore Coordination:
Pair with the client and incumbent-vendor BSAs.
Capture application history and validate content.
Use approved AI-enabled knowledge tools.
Provide offshore teams with business context and clear decisions.
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, Functional Analyst or equivalent.
- Experience supporting core insurance applications primarily hosted on an IBM mainframe. Working knowledge of COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM is required; hands-on programming experience is desirable but not mandatory.
- Experience producing BRDs.
- Experience supporting SIT, regression testing, UAT and production validation for complex insurance systems.
- Proven ability to bridge gaps among Japanese business stakeholders, mainframe engineers, QA teams and offshore delivery teams.
- LOMA or comparable life insurance qualification is desirable.
Location: Primarily onsite in Tokyo, with coordination across Japan and India
