Principal Solution Architect

Your role:

We are seeking an experienced Principal Solution Architect to serve as the architecture leader and trusted technology advisor within one of our kep public services clients.

This role is accountable for aligning Capgemini’s existing and future projects aligned to the client’s technology strategy and delivery landscape, building trusted relationships with key stakeholders (client executives, partners) and demonstrating thought leadership.

The role combines executive stakeholder engagement, solution governance, business development, engineering excellence, and architecture leadership across a portfolio spanning cloud-native applications, application modernisation, integration and APIs, event streaming and data platforms, AI-enabled solutions, automation and digital transformation initiatives.

You are an Australian Citizen, ideally with an existing Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) clearance, or willing to obtain and maintain one, already based in Canberra.

Your responsibilities:

• Account Architecture Leadership

• Define and maintain the account technology vision, architecture strategy, and roadmap.

• Act as the senior architecture authority across all Capgemini delivered programmes, projects, and technology domains.

• Ensure alignment between business objectives, technology investments, and delivery outcomes.

• Establish architecture governance, standards, principles, and review processes across the account.

• Champion engineering excellence and modern practices. Introduce them in a way that shapes and advances the client's engineering maturity.

• Bring industry trends, innovation and Capgemini assets (accelerators, frameworks, partner ecosystem) to the client's architecture agenda. Position them as joint opportunities.

• Lead communities of architect and engineering practitioners and ensure consistent solution practices across engagements.

• Approve or challenge architecture decisions across Capgemini-led engagements, convene architecture reviews and mobilise domain specialists where additional expertise is required.

Client Advisory & Strategic Engagement:

• Serve as a trusted advisor to client executives, business leaders, and technology stakeholders.

• Facilitate strategic planning discussions, transformation roadmaps, and investment priorities.

• Provide thought leadership across application modernisation, cloud adoption, software engineering, integration, AI, and digital transformation initiatives.

• Identify opportunities to leverage technology, data, and automation to improve business outcomes and reduce risk.

Solution Leadership:

• Review the architecture, design and assurance of complex, enterprise-scale solutions.

• Provide oversight across cloud-native applications, integration platforms, APIs, data services, digital platforms, and security architectures.

• Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, supportable, and aligned with enterprise standards.

• Resolve complex cross-domain architecture challenges and technical risks.

Business Development & Growth:

• Support account growth by shaping opportunities, proposals, and strategic pursuits.

• Lead solution development for major bids, renewals, and transformation programmes.

• Contribute to customer technology strategies that create long-term growth opportunities.

• Work closely with commercial and delivery leaders to balance innovation, risk, and profitability.

Delivery Assurance:

• Provide architecture oversight across delivery programmes and managed services.

• Ensure solution quality throughout discovery, design, implementation, and operational transition.

• Support major programme governance forums and executive steering committees.

• Identify and manage strategic technology risks and dependencies.

People & Capability leadership:

• Mentor and develop Solution Architects, Domain Architects and Technical Leads.

• Drive architecture capability growth, standards, and professional development.

• Foster knowledge sharing, innovation, and continuous improvement across the architecture community.

• Support resource planning, recruitment, succession planning, and capability uplift activities.

Your profile:

• Significant experience in Solution Architecture, Enterprise Architecture or Technology Leadership roles.

• Proven ability to lead architecture across complex, multi-vendor and enterprise-scale environments, and engaging with key software partners.

• Experience operating as a lead architect, account architect, or chief architect for strategic clients.

• Strong background in cloud platforms, application modernisation, software engineering, integration and API architectures, digital platforms, and data services.

• Strong communication skills with demonstrated experience engaging and influencing senior client executives.

• Strong commercial acumen with experience supporting large pursuits, business cases, and account growth activities.

• Experience leading architecture governance and assurance activities.

• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and presentation skills.

• Experience within Defence, Government, Critical Infrastructure, Energy, Utilities, or similarly regulated industries is highly desirable.

Preferred qualifications & success measures:

• Bachelor’s degree in technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.

• TOGAF,SAFe, Azure, AWS, or equivalent architecture certifications.

• Experience with modern cloud and platform ecosystems.

• Trusted advisor status with senior client stakeholders.

• Growth of the account through technology-led opportunities.

• Quality and consistency of architecture governance and delivery outcomes.

• Successful shaping of strategic transformation initiatives.

• Development of architecture capability and succession within the account.
