Avon Hospital is looking to add a Lead Laboratory Technologist to the Lab Team. In this role, you will performall duties of a Medical Technologist such as performing and interpreting tests at all levels of complexity, using your understanding of the theories and technical, procedural, and problem-solving aspects of Laboratory Science, as well as support, in full or in part, one or more specialized tracks (educational, developmental, and technical resource) of job responsibility.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform laboratory testing compliantly and maintainregulatory knowledge and awareness of specific job duties.

  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and documentall quality control activities, instrument calibrations, procedural calibrationsand maintenance performed.

  • Assume responsibility for and acts regardingany quality control or quality assurance issues as it pertains to specific job duties. Maintain instruments and equipment in accordance withmanufacturer's specifications.

  • Perform proficiencytesting in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations.

  • Identifyproblems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problems or immediatelynotifythe General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant, or Laboratory Director.

  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

  • In the Educational track: functions as an educator and provides instruction and training in theory, technical skills, safety protocols, and the application of laboratory test protocols to students, employees,and residents.

  • Conduct lab specific orientation for new employees and develop and coordinatelaboratory continuing education programs.

  • Assistin the validation/verification of new assays under the direction of the Medical Director. Perform validation/verification analysis, collect,and analyze data and prepare forMedical Director review.

  • Write technical procedures, submitto the MedicalDirector for review,and the Laboratory Director for approval.

  • Train medical technologists in new testing procedures, assistwith implementation of newly developed clinical tests.

  • Effectively resolves daily technical and theoretical problems; solves technical problems; serves as a technical resource for the laboratory testing personnel, supervisors,and staff.

  • Recognize and resolvecomplex technical problems and provideor seekviable, appropriate solutions.

  • Perform and oversee troubleshooting and repair of assigned laboratory instruments/equipment/procedures.

  • Assistwith ensuring that procedure manuals are up to date and that annual reviews of procedure manuals are conducted.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Pattern I: Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological,or clinical laboratory science ormedical technology from anaccredited institutionAND threeyears of laboratory training or experience, or both in non-waived testing

  • Pattern II: Meets the CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing personnel

  • See Code of Federal Regulations, Title 42, § 493.1489 Standard, High Complexity Testing Personnel Qualifications AND have at least three years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in non-waived testing

  • Diploma and/or transcripts must be provided. Education will be verified

  • Education outside of the United States requires diploma/transcripts translated into English and proof of foreign equivalency from by an HHS approved agency or nationally recognized organization such as NACES (National Association Credential Evaluation Services, Inc) ORAICE (Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc)

  • If the required clinical laboratory training and experience occurred at an outside facility, a signed, official letter from the facility or organization is requiredwhich details the dates and laboratory disciplineexperience and training.

  • Laboratory training or experience and can be met by any combination of years of clinical laboratory training or experience

  • Clinical laboratory training or experience can be met by:1. Medical technology internship 2. Full timeexperience performing non-waived testing for the required number of years 3. Part-time experience performing non-waived testing, with 2080 hoursequivalent to one year

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Medical Technologist, such as, MT(ASCP) or American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) eligible

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
