Software Engineer, CDP - Foundations

As a Software Engineer on the CDP Foundations team within the Developer group, you'll build the core platform capabilities that enable businesses to launch and scale crypto products. The CDP Foundations team's three pods, Portal and Platform Services, Custodial Foundations, and Fully Disclosed Onboarding and Eligibility, own the foundational experiences and primitives spanning the developer portal, shared customer services, custodial accounts and taxes, and KYC/KYB onboarding and eligibility APIs. You'll design and ship the backend services and APIs that make it easier for partners and their customers to securely access Coinbase's crypto infrastructure.

What you'll do:

• Build, deploy, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performing backend services in a microservices and distributed architecture
• Define internal and customer-facing APIs that serve as the building blocks for CDP, prioritizing clean design and a high-quality developer experience
• Lead end-to-end delivery of features from implementation through deployment and monitoring
• Strengthen operational excellence across the team by proactively addressing technical debt and driving improvements in reliability and observability
• Participate in code reviews and on-call rotation, lead incident response, and foster a team environment that welcomes constructive feedback to maintain high code quality standards

Required Skills and Experience:

• 2+ years of professional experience building and maintaining production backend services in a microservices or distributed systems environment
• Experience designing and shipping internal or customer-facing APIs with a focus on high-quality developer experience and clean interface design
• Familiarity deploying and testing in microservice ecosystems, including structured observability and monitoring tooling
• Proven ability to communicate technical trade-offs clearly in writing and in live discussions with cross-functional partners
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
• Demonstrates the ability to responsibly use generative AI tools and copilots (e.g., LibreChat, Gemini, Glean) in daily workflows, continuously learn as tools evolve, and apply human-in-the-loop practices to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in efficiency, cost, and quality.

Pay Transparency Notice: Base salary varies by location (see range below). Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)). 

Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus):

$152,405—$179,300 USD
