Join the power movement as a Production Technician Supervisor - First Shift
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Production Supervisor to join Commonwealth Fusion Systems. Operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, this role leads from the floor rather than an office-stepping in during critical prototype builds while removing daily operational roadblocks for technicians. The Production Supervisor is responsible for aligning daily shop-floor execution with overarching manufacturing goals by leading a high performing, multidisciplinary technical team. You will work cross-functionally across internal departments-collaborating with the engineering and R&D teams to solve complex technical challenges, bridge the gap between design and production, and set your team up for operational success. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership skills, a passion for developing high-performing teams, and experience in high-precision manufacturing, prototype production, electro-mechanical assembly, or R&D hardware environments.
What you'll do:
- Supervise a team of welders, production, fiberoptic, and composite technicians to build complex electromechanical parts and assemblies
- Execute production plans, priorities, and schedules established by manufacturing management and planning
- Partner closely with manufacturing and design engineering teams to resolve build issues, streamline transition from prototype to production
- Organize daily task lists and workflow by matching production needs with technician skill sets
- Lead cross-functional daily stand-up meetings focused on safety, quality, cost, and delivery metrics; author and distribute comprehensive daily production updates to leadership and key stakeholders
- Provide concise, transparent shift handoffs and executive updates to manufacturing leadership
- Establish and enforce safety protocols (in partnership with EHSS) and maintaining strict workplace cleanliness
- Design, implement, and manage structured training and qualification programs to build technician competencies across critical manufacturing processes and specialized technical skill sets
- Manage day-to-day personnel operations, including reviewing and approving timecards, conducting regular performance reviews, and resolving employee
relations matters in partnership with Human Resources
- Lead hands-on R&D and prototype hardware builds with minimal documentation, working directly with engineering to refine procedures
- Execute production hardware builds and testing strictly following standardized manufacturing instructions, engineering drawings, technical specifications, and quality test documentation
- Collaborating with cross functional teams, troubleshoot, root-cause, and resolve complex manufacturing discrepancies with a focus on continuous improvement
What we're looking for:
- High school diploma/equivalency certificate or higher
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a formal leadership role in a manufacturing setting
- 8+ years in a technical manufacturing, aerospace, high-tech hardware, or advanced industrial environment
- Demonstrated ability in reading/understanding technical and electrical drawings, manuals, and reports
- Experience navigating assemblies in 3D CAD software is a plus
- Computer proficiency including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Proficiency with ERP/MES systems for scheduling, job tracking, and labor allocation
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) to your team, articulating in a leadership manner
- Meticulous attention to detail and cleanliness with hands-on work
Bonus points for:
- Formal training or practical experience in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Six Sigma
principles
- Experience navigating complex 3D CAD assemblies (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo)
- Experience with Precision Measurement & Metrology
Must-have Requirements:
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
- Perform activities such as stooping, typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
- Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics
- Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
