Java Architect 1

Roles & Responsibilities:

Architecture & Solution Design:

• Define architecture and solution designs for Java-based applications.
• Translate business and technical requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.
• Lead design reviews and document architecture decisions, patterns, and standards.
• Identify technical risks, dependencies, and opportunities to simplify application flows.
• Ensure designs meet performance, availability, resiliency, and supportability requirements.
• Guide the design and development of enterprise Java applications.
• Promote sound practices for code quality, testing, performance, and maintainability.
• Help diagnose complex application issues and improve transaction performance and reliability.
• Guide API and service-based integrations between Java applications and other enterprise systems.

Telecom Customer Care & Billing:

• Partner with business stakeholders to translate telecom requirements into technical solutions.
• Apply domain knowledge across customer and subscriber management, order processing, service provisioning, billing, payments, and customer care.
• Ensure application flows support accurate and reliable business operations.

Modernization & Production Stability:

• Identify opportunities to modernize Java applications and improve system integration.
• Support technical-debt reduction and future-state architecture planning.
• Provide architectural guidance during incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
• Promote operational readiness, security, auditability, and production supportability.

Team Leadership:

• Mentor senior developers and technical leads in Java, system design, and online troubleshooting.
• Build the team's ability to make sound technical decisions and own solutions end to end.
• Collaborate with US-based customers, business stakeholders, and global engineering teams.
• Partner with product owners and engineering leads to refine requirements, plan work, track dependencies, and communicate delivery progress using Agile practices.

Technical Skills:

Core Java & Application Architecture:

• Experience with Spring Boot and REST APIs.
• Familiarity with SQL and relational databases.
• Knowledge of Git, Maven or Gradle, and unit testing.
• Enterprise Java application design and development.
• APIs, service-oriented architecture, and system integration.
• Automated testing, code quality, and maintainability practices.

Platform & Operations:

• Enable the adoption of AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Glean, and similar platforms.
• Support initiatives involving APIs, scripting, DevOps, and CI/CD practices.
• Build integrations between mainframe and distributed/open systems platforms.
• Proven experience in CI/CD design and automation (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Chef).
• Proficiency in scripting/programming (JavaScript, Python, and PowerShell).
• Identify opportunities to streamline workflows through AI and automation.

Good to Know:

• High-Level Assembler (HLASM) and mainframe online application concepts.
• CICS, DB2, or related mainframe technologies.
• Knowledge of RabbitMQ and Elasticsearch.
• Familiarity with observability, logging, monitoring, and application security.

Leadership & Business:

• Solution and application architecture.
• Technical roadmap planning and risk assessment.
• Stakeholder communication and cross-team collaboration.
• Team mentoring and technical knowledge transfer.
• Telecom billing and customer-care domain knowledge.

Agile Delivery & Work Management:

• Knowledge of Agile practices, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, estimation, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Experience using Azure DevOps (ADO) for work items, user stories, bugs, sprint boards, and delivery tracking.
• Ability to help teams maintain clear priorities, ownership, and visibility into progress and risks.

Ideal Experience:

• 15+ years of software development experience, with deep Java expertise.
• 5+ years in architecture, technical leadership, or equivalent senior engineering roles.
• Experience designing and supporting high-volume applications.
• Experience with enterprise integrations and mission-critical production systems.
• Telecom billing, customer care, or comparable enterprise-domain experience.
• Demonstrated success mentoring engineers and working with globally distributed teams.
