Senior Java Developer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to join our multicultural engineering team in Bangalore. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful technical impact as a senior individual contributor, working on a large-scale application refactoring initiative designed to reduce technical debt and improve system architecture.

In this role, you will be a key driver of our testing strategy, building robust safety nets, particularly around integration testing that give the team the confidence to refactor and modernise our codebase at pace. You will bring a modern, AI-assisted development mindset, leveraging the latest tooling and practices to accelerate delivery and improve code quality across the team.

The candidate will have responsibilities across the following functions:

Testing Strategy and Quality:

• Build our overall test strategy, with a strong focus on expanding integration test coverage to create reliable safety nets for refactoring.
• Driving a test-driven development (TDD) culture, ensuring comprehensive unit, integration, and regression testing across the codebase.
• Identifying gaps in test coverage and proposing pragmatic, incremental solutions to close them.
• Championing automated testing within CI/CD pipelines to enable fast, safe releases.

AI-Driven Development:

• Actively leveraging AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code) to accelerate development workflows.
• Exploring and promoting best practices around responsible use of AI in software engineering.
• Sharing learnings with the broader engineering team to uplift collective capability.

Technical Collaboration:

• Acting as a go-to technical resource for peers, sharing knowledge on architecture, testing, and best practices.
• Participating in code reviews and contributing to the definition of coding standards.
• Collaborating with peer engineers and the product team on technical strategy and roadmap planning.

The core requirements for the job include the following:

Technical Skills

• 5+ years of professional Java development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java and enterprise Java frameworks (Spring).
• Solid experience designing and implementing integration tests at scale.
• Strong testing background: unit, integration, and end-to-end testing strategies.
• Experience with Oracle Database, including SQL optimisation and performance tuning.
• Experience with application refactoring, legacy code modernisation, and technical debt reduction.
• Solid understanding of software design patterns, SOLID principles, and clean code practices.
• Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Experience with Kubernetes on AWS.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and an appetite to integrate them into daily engineering practice.
