Desjardins is a Canadian financial services cooperative headquartered in Levis, Quebec, and founded in 1900. The organization provides a comprehensive range of services including retail and commercial banking, insurance, wealth management, and investment brokerage. As the largest federation of credit unions in North America, it operates primarily in Quebec and Ontario while maintaining a presence in the United States through its Florida-based banking division.

Desjardins entities operate in different environments, so their monitoring, analysis and reporting activities need to reflect their specific realities. As a senior risk partner advisor, you partner with Desjardins entities on risk management, providing guidance and coordinating the activities of the Risk Management Executive Division. You help shape risk management strategies and directions, align risk considerations with business priorities and support strategic initiatives by coordinating effective challenges and risk opinions. You provide leadership and influence a wide range of collaborators across the organization on complex, cross-sector and highly innovative strategic matters and projects. In this role, you help develop and recommend strategic directions and shape the organization’s business positioning. The nature of your assignments requires in-depth expertise and extensive knowledge in your area of practice. More specifically, you will be required to:

  • Provide close support to the first line of defence for certain Desjardins entities and coordinate second-line risk management activities
  • Lead strategic risk management and financial planning exercises, including the risk appetite framework (RAF), financial and capital plans, risk management reporting and other strategic matters
  • Partner with Desjardins entities on risk management by coordinating effective challenges and risk opinions on key matters
  • Ensure consistency between Desjardins entities’ strategic directions and their risk appetite frameworks
  • Closely monitor risk mitigation measures and action plans
  • Ensure the quality and timeliness of deliverables presented to decision-making bodies

What we offer*

  • Competitive salary and annual bonus
  • 4 weeks of flexible vacation starting in the first year
  • Defined benefit pension plan that provides predictable, stable income throughout retirement
  • Group insurance including telemedicine
  • Reimbursement of health and wellness expenses and telework equipment

* Benefits apply based on eligibility criteria.

What you bring to the table

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • At least eight years of relevant experience managing financial risks or services
  • Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
  • Experience in risk management within the three lines of defence model
  • Experience developing or updating risk appetite frameworks
  • Experience in complex environments requiring a strong ability to influence, collaborate, and advise contributors at various organizational levels
  • Significant experience in strategic advisory roles with management, management committees or risk committees
  • Experience coordinating cross-sector matters involving a wide range of collaborators
  • Experience preparing executive-level materials, strategic presentations and recommendations for decision-making bodies
  • Experience and ability to make complex topics easier to understand for different audiences
  • Excellent French communication skills, both spoken and written
  • Advanced intermediate level proficiency in both spoken and written English due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with English-speaking partners, members and/or clients
