Director of Engineering (Mobile + Backend)

We are seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead the development of high-scale, mobile-first consumer platforms. This role requires a strong technology leader with expertise in backend systems, platform engineering, and mobile ecosystem architecture, coupled with proven experience managing large engineering teams and delivering products used by millions of customers. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in B2C/D2C consumer-facing products, distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and engineering leadership.

Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and scale multiple engineering teams across backend, platform, and mobile engineering.
• Drive technical strategy, architecture decisions, and execution for mobile-first products.
• Partner with Product, Design, Data, and Business stakeholders to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
• Build and scale highly available, resilient, and secure backend platforms.
• Define engineering roadmaps, technical standards, and operational excellence practices.
• Establish best practices around software development, architecture, code quality, testing, and deployment.
• Drive cloud adoption, platform modernization, and engineering productivity initiatives.
• Manage hiring, performance management, succession planning, and team development.
• Ensure system scalability, reliability, observability, and security across the platform.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives and influence organizational technology direction.

The core requirements for the job include the following:

Leadership:

• 13-16 years of overall software engineering experience.
• 4+ years of experience leading engineering managers, tech leads, and large engineering teams.
• Proven experience managing teams of 20+ engineers.
• Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional leadership skills.

Technical Expertise:

• Strong hands-on background in backend engineering using Java, Kotlin, Golang, Node.js, or similar technologies.
• Expertise in designing and scaling distributed systems and microservices architecture.
• Strong understanding of API design, event-driven systems, and service-oriented architecture.
• Experience with high-scale databases (SQL and NoSQL).
• Deep understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, and DevOps practices.
• Strong understanding of system design, scalability, reliability, and performance optimization.

Mobile-First Product Experience:

• Experience building and scaling mobile-first applications serving large consumer user bases.
• Strong understanding of Android and iOS ecosystems and backend integration patterns.
• Experience optimizing platform performance, user engagement, and customer experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong experience in B2C/D2C consumer internet companies.
• Experience in e-commerce, travel, FinTech, FoodTech, EdTech, OTT, marketplace, or digital consumer platforms.
• Exposure to AI/ML-driven product experiences is a plus.
• Experience managing globally distributed engineering teams.
• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or engineering from a reputed institute.
