Lead DevOps Engineer GCP

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Lead DevOps Engineer - GCP to lead the design, implementation, and operation of cloud-native infrastructure and platform services. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD, API Gateway Administration, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and Cloud Observability. This role requires a strong technical leader who can drive automation, platform reliability, security, and operational excellence while collaborating closely with Engineering, Product, and Security teams.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, implementation, and management of scalable, secure, and highly available cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Drive Kubernetes (GKE) platform operations, scalability, performance optimisation, and governance.
• Build, maintain, and optimise CI/CD pipelines to support efficient and reliable software delivery.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and establish automation best practices.
• Administer API Gateway platforms, including API lifecycle management, routing, authentication, authorisation, and traffic control.
• Establish cloud monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability frameworks across production environments.
• Drive Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, including SLI/SLO/SLA management, reliability improvements, and operational readiness.
• Lead incident management, root cause analysis (RCA), and service recovery activities for critical production systems.
• Collaborate with development teams to improve deployment processes, infrastructure reliability, and platform scalability.
• Implement cloud security best practices, IAM governance, OAuth2/OIDC integrations, and compliance controls.
• Mentor and guide engineers while promoting DevOps, automation, and operational excellence across teams.
• Maintain architecture documentation, operational runbooks, and deployment standards.

Requirements:

• 8-10 years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, Platform Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering.
• Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including: Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, VPC Networking, IAM, Cloud SQL, Load Balancing, Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging.
• Extensive experience with Kubernetes (GKE) administration and container orchestration.
• Strong expertise in Docker and containerised application deployment.
• Advanced experience with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code and cloud automation.
• Strong experience designing and managing CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, ArgoCD, or similar tools.
• Hands-on experience with API Gateway Administration and API lifecycle management.
• Operational knowledge of OAuth2 OpenID Connect (OIDC), JWT authentication, and API security best practices.
• Experience with cloud monitoring, alerting, logging, and observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, and GCP Monitoring.
• Strong Linux administration and shell scripting skills.
• Experience managing production incidents, service restoration, and root cause analysis processes.
• Strong understanding of cloud networking, security, scalability, and high-availability architectures.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with GitOps practices and ArgoCD.
• Exposure to Kafka, Pub/Sub, RabbitMQ, or event-driven architectures.
• Experience with Elasticsearch and centralised logging solutions.
• Knowledge of cloud cost optimisation and FinOps practices.
• Exposure to AI-assisted DevOps and Infrastructure Automation tools.
