Senior Automation Engineer
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to take ownership of designing, building, and delivering automation solutions across diverse client environments. This role is ideal for a technically strong and independent professional with hands-on experience in Workato or n8n, system integrations, APIs, middleware, and workflow automation.
You will review and optimise existing automations, develop new solutions, manage integrations, and take ownership of assigned workstreams from build and testing through to deployment, documentation, and handover. Strong communication and a business analyst mindset are essential, as you will work directly with technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand processes and deliver practical solutions.

Ideal Profile
Automation & Integration
- Mid-to-senior level experience in Automation Engineering and/or System Integration.
- Strong hands-on experience with Workato or deep expertise with n8n.
- Proven ability to design and implement automation workflows across multiple systems.
- Strong experience integrating SaaS applications through APIs, middleware, and data flows.
- Experience reverse-engineering existing workflows and identifying optimisation opportunities.
Technology & Platforms
- Experience working with REST APIs, integrations, and workflow automation.
- Exposure to React/React Native environments is advantageous.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure and/or AWS.
- Exposure to Vercel and Supabase is beneficial.
- Familiarity with Jira, Atlassian Suite, or equivalent Kanban/Scrum tools.
- Experience supporting eCommerce and logistics-focused environments is highly desirable.
- Exposure to Shopify and/or BigCommerce is advantageous.

Responsibilities
Automation Development & Optimisation
- Reverse-engineer existing workflows and automations to identify inefficiencies, technical issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide practical implementation options and well-founded recommendations rather than simply identifying problems.
- Design and build new automation solutions across multiple platforms, systems, and workflows.
- Develop scalable automation solutions incorporating appropriate integration and implementation patterns.
End-to-End Delivery
- Take full ownership of assigned automation workstreams from requirements and design through to build, testing, deployment, documentation, and handover.
- Ensure automations include appropriate exception handling, monitoring, documentation, and operational support processes.
- Troubleshoot integration and workflow issues and implement sustainable solutions.
- Support medium-to-enterprise client engagements, including integration-focused and lift-and-shift workstreams.
Business Analysis & Documentation
- Gather and analyse requirements and translate business processes into practical automation solutions.
- Document workflows, system processes, requirements, and implementation decisions clearly.
- Produce client-ready workflow diagrams, SOPs, and handover documentation that enables operational teams to support solutions independently.
- Maintain clear workflow visibility through Jira or similar delivery management platforms.
Reusable Solutions & Continuous Improvement
- Develop reusable automation components, standardised recipes, integration patterns, and internal playbooks.
- Identify recurring requirements and opportunities to improve scalability and delivery efficiency.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of automation practices, documentation, and delivery processes.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with technical leads, solution teams, and stakeholders to ensure automation initiatives meet client requirements.
- Clearly communicate automation workflows, technical considerations, progress, and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Provide regular written delivery updates and clear asynchronous communication to minimise unnecessary meetings and dependencies.
- Operate autonomously while contributing effectively to the wider delivery team.
