What does the job involve?

This position offers an opportunity to work with environmental management at Norway’s only refinery, where process technology, industrial operations and environmental performance are closely interconnected.

In this role, you will work closely with operational and technical teams to understand and quantify the environmental impact of the plant. You will use environmental and process data to evaluate emissions, identify deviations and improvement opportunities, and provide a sound technical basis for environmental decision-making.

You will contribute to environmental reporting and -monitoring, follow up regulatory requirements and environmental permits, and support both day-to-day operations and longer-term improvement initiatives. The role also provides opportunities to contribute to the further development of Mongstad’s environmental management systems and environmental performance.

For this position, we are particularly looking for candidates with a technical interest in industrial emissions to air. Experience with emission measurements, calculation and quantification of emissions, environmental data analysis or regulatory reporting is considered an advantage. Knowledge of environmental regulations applicable to Norwegian onshore industry is also beneficial.

The Environmental engineers at Mongstad play an important role in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and continuously improving the plant’s environmental management systems. The work combines environmental expertise with technical understanding of industrial processes and is carried out in close collaboration with plant management, operational and technical disciplines, as well as environmental authorities.

What will my tasks be?

Within this position, your key tasks will be to:

  • Work with emission monitoring, calculations and reporting, including evaluation and validation of measurement and process data.
  • Support plant management and operational teams in improving environmental performance.
  • Interpret environmental regulations and translate them into practical measures for plant operations.
  • Support environmental permit compliance and maintain dialogue with environmental authorities.
  • Support climate and environmental risk assessments and contribute to effective risk management.
  • Contribute to assurance and improvement activities across Equinor’s onshore plants.

Here's what we expect from you:

At Equinor, there are some overall qualities we regard as essential. We want you to identify with the values that guide our decisions and help us succeed and grow: open, collaborative, courageous and caring. • An interest in working with technical data, calculations, and solving complex challenges.
  • A passion for sustainability and improving environmental performance in an industrial setting.
  • A structured and analytical approach, with a focus on finding practical solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Fluency in Norwegian, both written and spoken.
