About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers responsible for building and scaling reliable technology solutions for our lending and credit products.
You will combine strong technical expertise with people leadership, working closely with Product, Data, Risk, and other stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions. You’ll be responsible for engineering execution, technical direction, team development, and the reliability of the systems your team owns.
Requirements
What You’ll Do
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers, creating a high-performing and collaborative engineering culture.
- Own the technical direction and delivery of systems supporting lending and credit products.
- Work closely with Product, Risk, Data, and other teams to define technical solutions and delivery priorities.
- Drive the design, development, and scaling of reliable backend services and distributed systems.
- Participate in architectural decisions and ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, and resilient.
- Set engineering standards around code quality, testing, deployment, observability, and system reliability.
- Support engineers with technical guidance, code reviews, architecture discussions, and complex problem-solving.
- Identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and system reliability issues.
- Ensure effective planning, prioritisation, and timely delivery of engineering initiatives.
- Establish and track engineering metrics around delivery, quality, reliability, and operational performance.
- Support incident management and ensure effective root-cause analysis and follow-up.
- Coach engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback, career development, and performance management.
- Participate in hiring and help build a strong engineering team.
What We’re Looking For
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, with significant experience in backend development.
- 2+ years of experience managing or leading engineering teams.
- AI native development familiarity
- Hands-on coding experience and contribution is must to have, you would be expected to design and code the new system and lead with examples.
- Strong experience designing and building distributed systems and scalable backend applications.
- Experience working within lending, credit, fintech, payments, or a closely related financial domain.
- Strong understanding of relational database design, optimisation, indexing, and query performance.
- Strong knowledge of system design, software architecture, APIs, microservices, and asynchronous/event-driven systems.
- Proven experience delivering complex technical projects from design through production.
- Strong understanding of software development practices, CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and production operations.
- Experience mentoring engineers and developing technical talent.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to balance technical quality, business priorities, and delivery timelines.
Nice to Have
- Experience building or scaling credit decisioning, loan management, repayment, collections, or risk systems.
- Experience working with high-volume transactional systems.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure and modern DevOps practices.
- Experience leading distributed or geographically dispersed engineering teams.
- Experience hiring and scaling engineering teams in a fast-growing organisation.
Programming language: golang, react (some level of frontend development would be good to have)
