FIS

FIS is an American financial technology company founded in 1968 that supplies the core processing, payments and treasury software banks and corporations run their operations on. Its banking solutions business covers deposit and loan cores, digital channels and card issuing for thousands of financial institutions, while its capital markets business sells trading, treasury, lending and risk software to banks, asset managers and corporate finance departments. Headquartered in Jacksonville and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, it sold most of its Worldpay merchant business in 2023 to refocus on the software it sells to financial institutions rather than merchant acquiring.

This role partners extensively with Finance, Technology, Procurement and Legal teams to account for technology investments, contractor spend, software licensing, cloud computing arrangements and other complex transactions. • Prepare, review, and analyze journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, rollforwards, and supporting schedules.
  • Manage accounting for significant operating expenses, including contractor, consulting, professional services, software licensing, and technology-related costs.
  • Coordinate monthly and quarterly accrual processes, including analysis of spend trends and collaboration with budget owners.

Technology & Vendor Accounting

  • Support accounting and financial reporting for software, cloud computing arrangements, SaaS subscriptions, implementation costs, and technology-related contracts.
  • Review vendor agreements, statements of work, and purchase arrangements to determine appropriate accounting treatment under U.S. GAAP.
  • Assist in evaluating capitalization versus expense determinations for technology investments and implementation projects.
  • Partner with Procurement, Technology, Legal, and Finance teams to ensure proper accounting for new vendor arrangements.

Analysis & Reporting

  • Perform detailed variance analysis and explain period-over-period fluctuations to management.
  • Develop actionable insights from financial data to support business decision-making and cost management initiatives.
  • Prepare executive-level reporting packages and management presentations.
  • Analyze large data sets from multiple financial systems and develop efficient reporting solutions.

Audit & Compliance

  • Support internal and external audits by preparing audit support, researching transactions, and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, SOX controls, corporate accounting policies, and financial governance requirements.
  • Maintain documentation supporting accounting conclusions and key accounting estimates.

Process Improvement & Automation

  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes through automation and improved reporting solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, scalability, and control effectiveness.
  • Leverage advanced Excel and financial systems capabilities to improve data quality and reporting accuracy.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Serve as a key accounting partner to stakeholders across Finance, Technology, Procurement, Legal, and Operations.
  • Provide guidance and training to team members on accounting policies, close procedures, and best practices.
  • Support special projects, acquisitions, system implementations, and strategic finance initiatives as assigned.
  • Provide operational oversight and governance of offshore and third-party accounting resources supporting financial close, reconciliations, accruals, and reporting activities.
  • Review and validate work products prepared by outsourced accounting teams, ensuring appropriate supporting documentation, accounting conclusions, and control execution.
  • Establish expectations, monitor performance against service-level objectives, and ensure accounting deliverables are completed accurately, timely, and in compliance with company policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience.
  • Five or more years of progressive accounting experience in a complex corporate or public accounting environment.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, accrual accounting and account reconciliation practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex close activities, accounting estimates and competing priorities independently.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, data analysis and financial modeling.
  • Experience using enterprise resource planning systems and analyzing large financial data sets.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with careful attention to detail and documentation.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for explaining accounting matters to financial and non-financial stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Public Accountant designation or active progress toward certification.
  • Experience with software, cloud computing, technology, telecommunications or professional services accounting.
  • Experience reviewing contracts, statements of work, vendor agreements or procurement transactions.
  • Experience supporting financial controls, public company reporting and internal or external audits.
