Actuaries are essential to GEICO’s continued success as one of the nation’s leading auto insurers. Their duties consist of determining rates for our various insurance products, analyzing and projecting drivers of loss trends, developing and enhancing new insurance products, examining and setting loss reserves, working with data infrastructure, and much more! Our actuaries are motivated, self-driven, and excellent analytical thinkers. GEICO’s actuaries do more than crunch numbers - they are active in determining business strategies, educating management on our profitability and projections, and communicating across departments to ensure company success. Actuaries are key members of GEICO’s management team, as a wide range of critical decisions are based on their projections and professional opinions.
As an Actuarial Intern, you will be provided the opportunity to directly impact GEICO's growth and profitability by working alongside other actuaries on various actuarial projects and analysis. From day one, your work will have an impact, forming the basis for truly transformative solutions!
How You’ll Make a Difference
Business Impact:
- Directly impact GEICO's growth and profitability by working alongside other analysts on various projects and analysis
- Have an impact from day one, forming the basis for truly transformative solutions
- Work on actuarial projects such as reserving analysis, claim trend analysis, and frequency/severity projections, which directly impact our company and customers
Analysis and Stakeholder Communication:
- Develop and present analysis and proposals to various stakeholder groups
Technical Skills and Training:
- Gain valuable real-world experience using various technical applications such as Excel, SQL, R, Snowflake, Power BI and ResQ
- Participate in insurance, actuarial, and technical trainings
Business Exposure and Internship Experience:
- Be introduced to GEICO’s business objectives and initiatives through active participation in internship forums and departmental meetings
- Participate in social and networking events
- Have an opportunity to interview for a full-time position at the completion of the internship
What We’re Looking For
Experience & Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Math, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Economics, Business, Data/Business Analytics, or other relevant quantitative field of study with expected graduation by May 2028
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (Please upload ALL transcripts as part of the application process)
- Must live within commutable distance from one of our offices in Bethesda, MD or Chicago, IL, and work a hybrid schedule, including working from the office at least three days per week
Core Skills:
- Proven analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- Highly effective communication skills
- Intermediate skills in Excel
- Basic proficiency with data analysis software such as R, SAS, SQL, Python, Power BI, and/or similar tooling
- Self-driven, motivated, and leadership potential
- Ability to handle multiple concurrent priorities, providing accurate and timely results
- Intellectual curiosity to learn and ability to ask insightful questions
- Effective time management, attention to detail, and organizational skills
Annual Salary
$24.93 - $41.21The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
