Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Voice Platform team, building high-performance, network-facing services that power real-time voice communications for Genesys Cloud contact centers worldwide.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Java backend engineer who enjoys building reliable, scalable cloud services and wants to broaden their experience across networking, Linux, C, and real-time communications.

Java will be the primary development language for this role, with engineers working on cloud backend services and distributed systems that support our global Voice Platform. You will also have opportunities to contribute to systems-level and network-facing components written in C, developing your knowledge of the lower levels of the voice technology stack.

You will own features end to end and help deliver highly available voice capabilities used by enterprise customers at global scale. Prior SIP/VoIP or contact-center experience is a plus, not a requirement. If you enjoy backend engineering, distributed systems, production ownership, and learning a specialized technical domain, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities for this role include (but are not limited to):

• Design, develop, and maintain Java-based backend services supporting real-time voice communications, with a strong focus on scalability, reliability, performance, and operational excellence.
• Build and evolve distributed cloud services running on AWS, applying strong software engineering principles to production systems operating at global scale.
• Own features and services end to end, from technical design and implementation through testing, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing production support.
• Apply networking and Linux knowledge to develop, integrate, and troubleshoot services supporting real-time communications.
• Contribute to network-facing and systems-level components written in C, working alongside experienced engineers and developing deeper systems programming knowledge.
• Learn and apply SIP/VoIP and Genesys voice-platform concepts as part of day-to-day development.
• Investigate and resolve complex production issues spanning application, networking, cloud, and systems layers.
• Collaborate with Product, Architecture, DevOps, QA, Security, and Operations to turn requirements into reliable technical solutions.
• Follow and contribute to engineering practices covering architecture, code quality, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, monitoring, and production operations.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and incident response, while sharing technical knowledge across the team.
• Continuously improve the performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability of the services you own.

Minimum Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong professional experience with Java backend development.
• Experience designing, developing, and supporting backend services or distributed systems.
• Good networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, UDP, TLS, and sockets.
• Solid Linux experience in development or production environments.
• Experience building or supporting services in cloud environments, preferably AWS.
• Experience debugging and troubleshooting complex or production systems.
• Interest in developing or expanding skills in C and systems-level programming.
• Willingness to learn SIP/VoIP and real-time communications concepts.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while aligning with the team's technical direction.

Desirable Skills

• Hands-on experience with C, particularly network-facing or systems-level software.
• Spring Boot and related Java frameworks.
• Experience with Python, AWS Lambda, or web application development.
• Broader AWS experience, including ECS/EKS, API Gateway, SQS/SNS, DynamoDB/RDS, CloudWatch, IAM, and CloudFormation/CDK/Terraform.
• Experience building highly available, distributed, or real-time systems.
• Experience with SIP, VoIP, or open-source telecom platforms such as OpenSIPS, Kamailio, Asterisk, or FreeSWITCH.
• Genesys Cloud CX, contact-center, carrier, CCaaS, UCaaS, or CPaaS experience.
