Job Title: Staff Software Engineer - Voice Platform

Summary:

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Voice Platform team as a hands-on technical leader for high-performance, network-facing services that power real-time voice communications for Genesys Cloud contact centers worldwide. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer who is proficient in C, strong in Java, networking and Linux, and motivated to grow deep expertise in SIP/VoIP and voice-platform systems.

You will work across systems-level software and cloud backend services, influence architecture and engineering practices, and help deliver reliable, scalable voice capabilities used by enterprise customers at global scale. Prior SIP/VoIP or contact-center experience is a plus, not a requirement. If you enjoy complex distributed systems, production ownership, and mentoring others while continuing to learn a specialized domain, this is a high-impact opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities for this role include (but are not limited to):

• Lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable network and voice-platform services that support real-time communications with high reliability and operational excellence.
• Develop and maintain systems software in C, including work with network-facing and open-source platform components used in real-time communications.
• Design and implement cloud backend services in Java and contribute across related platform services as needed.
• Build and operate services on AWS, ensuring scalable, observable, and production-ready solutions.
• Apply strong networking and Linux systems skills to develop, integrate, and troubleshoot real-time communications workloads.
• Build fluency in SIP/VoIP and Genesys voice-platform concepts, and help the team apply them effectively.
• Lead troubleshooting of complex production issues spanning networking, systems, and service layers; drive root-cause analysis and lasting fixes.
• Partner with product, architecture, DevOps, QA, security, and operations to translate business and platform needs into durable technical solutions.
• Define and promote engineering best practices for design, code quality, CI/CD, testing, monitoring, logging, tracing, and production operations.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, incident response, and hands-on technical guidance.
• Drive continuous improvement in system performance, availability, scalability, fault tolerance, and maintainability across the voice platform.

Minimum Requirements:

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including senior/lead-level impact
• Hands-on proficiency in C for systems or network-oriented software
• Hands-on proficiency in Java for backend service development
• Strong networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, UDP, TLS, sockets, and network debugging)
• Strong Linux experience in development and production environments
• Experience designing, building, and supporting services in cloud environments (preferably AWS)
• Experience leading technical initiatives from architecture through production delivery
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and influence technical direction
• Strong communication skills across engineering, product, and operations
• Experience supporting mission-critical, high-availability production systems
• Ability to learn SIP/VoIP and real-time communications concepts quickly
• Ability to balance quality, performance, security, and delivery timelines

Desirable Skills:

• Spring Boot and web application development
• Broader AWS experience (ECS/EKS, API Gateway, SQS/SNS, DynamoDB/RDS, CloudWatch, IAM, CloudFormation/CDK/Terraform)
• Experience with SIP, VoIP, or open-source telecom platforms (e.g. OpenSIPS, Kamailio, Asterisk, FreeSWITCH)
• Genesys Cloud CX, contact-center, carrier, CCaaS, UCaaS, or CPaaS experience
• Multi-region deployments, Kubernetes, service mesh, and zero-downtime release practices
• Security for networked systems (TLS, mTLS, SRTP, IAM, network segmentation)
• Strong observability and incident-leadership background
