Global Compute builds and operates the foundation of GoDaddy's AWS cloud platform, including accounts, networking, security, and governance. We're building a new Cloud Cost Optimisation team in India focused on turning cloud spend into measurable savings!
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Cloud Infrastructure & Governance, you'll work with a small team of engineers to lead an area of cost savings, contribute hands-on to development, support team planning, and mentor others. You'll build tools to identify unnecessary spend, implement improvements safely, and help ensure savings are sustained.
You'll collaborate with service owners, Cloud Infrastructure, Cloud Governance, FinOps, and cloud architects to improve shared AWS services using existing tools and processes. The role focuses specifically on AWS cost optimisation, while broader cloud architecture and organisation-wide policies remain with the cloud architects group.
Responsibilities:
- Drive meaningful AWS cost savings: Identify and deliver opportunities to reduce cloud costs across compute, networking, and other AWS services, measuring and reporting the impact of your work.
- Build practical tools and automation: Use Python, AWS data, and AI-assisted tools to analyse usage, uncover savings opportunities, and automate repetitive work across cloud environments.
- Make cloud environments more efficient: Improve how AWS accounts and resources are managed, including removing unused resources and putting safeguards in place to help prevent unnecessary spend.
- Deliver changes safely and collaboratively: Partner with engineering and FinOps teams to implement cost improvements, with appropriate testing, monitoring, and rollback plans for production changes.
- Support and strengthen the team: Share knowledge, review code and technical approaches, mentor teammates, contribute to hiring, and encourage engineering practices that help the team succeed.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in software, reliability, or platform engineering, with opportunities to mentor others or lead technical projects.
- Experience improving AWS cost efficiency, with an understanding of how to measure and demonstrate savings.
- Strong Python skills and experience building reliable, well-tested code, plus familiarity with another programming language.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services and cloud infrastructure, including networking, compute, storage, databases, security, and tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK.
- Ability to solve complex technical problems and collaborate effectively, including working with SQL/data, Agile teams, and communicating clearly across different teams.
You might also have.
- Built on or contributed to an existing policy-as-code platform (AWS Config, cfn-guard, CloudFormation Hooks).
- Public technical writing or speaking (tech talks, conference presentations, blog posts) on cloud cost or FinOps.
