[What you will be working on]
We are looking for a hands-on Platform Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, automate, and operate modern infrastructure platforms across cloud and hybrid environments. The role sits within the Technology Planning & Enablement Office (TPEO) and focuses on improving reliability, observability, automation, security posture, governance, and operational resilience for critical platforms supporting government digital services in agencies.
The engineer will work closely with application, security, cloud, and operations teams to enable scalable and resilient platform capabilities, while reducing operational toil and technical debt. You will also play an active role in shaping platform governance standards and leveraging AI-driven tooling to enhance operational efficiency across the government's infrastructure landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Build and maintain cloud infrastructure platforms across AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, and hybrid environments, aligned to government infrastructure governance and security standards
Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD pipelines, with a strong emphasis on automation, repeatability, and auditability
Drive platform observability through comprehensive monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational dashboards to ensure full visibility into platform health and performance
Improve infrastructure reliability, resiliency, failover readiness, and operational standards across government platforms
Support container platforms including Kubernetes and related ecosystem tooling
Automate operational processes including patching, provisioning, compliance checks, and governance reporting to reduce manual toil and improve consistency
Support vulnerability remediation and infrastructure security hardening activities in line with government security policies and frameworks
Troubleshoot infrastructure and platform incidents across compute, network, storage, and cloud services
Partner with application and product teams to improve cloud-native adoption, operational readiness, and adherence to platform governance standards
Contribute to platform engineering standards, reusable modules, and engineering best practices that can be adopted across government agencies
Leverage AI and ML-driven tools to enhance operational insights, predictive monitoring, anomaly detection, and infrastructure optimisation
Support migration and modernisation initiatives from legacy infrastructure to cloud platforms
[What we are looking for]
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Experience in cloud infrastructure engineering and operations, ideally within a large-scale enterprise or government context.
Technical Skills
Strong hands-on experience with at least one cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
Experience with Terraform, Ansible, Gitlab, GitHub, or similar automation and Infrastructure-as-Code tooling
Experience operating Kubernetes or container platforms
Familiarity with observability platforms such as Cloud Native Solutions like AWS CloudWatch, Azure Monitor and third-party solutions like Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, or CloudWatch
Good understanding of infrastructure security, IAM, networking, and resiliency concepts, including governance and compliance considerations
Experience supporting production environments and operational incident response
Scripting or programming knowledge in Python, Bash, or similar languages
Experience leveraging AI/ML-driven tools for operational insights, automation, observability, or infrastructure optimisation
Preferred Skills
Experience supporting regulated or large-scale enterprise environments, including government or public sector contexts
Exposure to SRE, platform engineering, or DevSecOps practices
Cloud certifications in AWS, Azure, or GCP
Experience with hybrid cloud or datacentre environments
Familiarity with government ICT governance frameworks or security classification requirements
