[What you will be working on]
The Singapore Judiciary plays a fundamental role in upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is accessible, effective and trusted.
For many people, navigating the justice system can be unfamiliar and complex. They may be representing themselves, dealing with a difficult personal situation, or interacting with the Courts for the first time. For lawyers, judicial officers and court staff, complex processes and systems can create a different set of challenges that affect how efficiently and effectively justice is delivered.
As the Senior Designer, you will help make the justice system easier to understand, navigate and participate in - while respecting the legal and procedural safeguards that underpin it.
You will work across the Judiciary with judges, judicial officers, court staff, lawyers, members of the public, self-represented persons, policy and technology teams to understand where people encounter barriers and design better ways for them to interact with the justice system.
This is not simply a role designing digital products. You will help shape how the Judiciary administers, adjudicates and delivers justice, using design, technology and service thinking to improve outcomes for both the people who use the system and the people who operate it.
The Opportunity
The opportunity is to make the justice system easier to understand, navigate and participate in - for the people who use it and the professionals who help deliver it.
This includes members of the public and self-represented persons who may have little or no experience with the Courts, as well as lawyers, paralegals, judges, judicial officers, court administrators and other agencies that interact with the justice system.
For users, accessibility can mean being able to find the right information, understand what they need to do, complete processes with greater confidence, and know what to expect next. For those delivering justice, it can mean having systems and processes that reduce unnecessary administrative burden and allow them to focus on the work that matters.
The challenge is not simply to make every process simpler. Some complexity is necessary because of legal, procedural and institutional requirements. The opportunity for design is to distinguish necessary complexity from accidental complexity - removing avoidable barriers while preserving the safeguards and integrity of the justice system.
Technology, digital services and the systems that support the Judiciary are important enablers of this transformation. By improving how information, processes and services work together, they can help the Judiciary respond more effectively to changing needs, procedures and legislation.
Ultimately, the goal is not the technology itself. The goal is a justice system that works better for the people who depend on it.
What you would do
Understand people and the system
You will research how people and professionals experience the justice system, identifying barriers, pain points and opportunities across services, processes and organisational boundaries. You will use research, workshops and prototyping to turn complex problems into clear opportunities and practical solutions.
Shape better ways of delivering justice
You will work with judicial, legal, policy, operational and technology stakeholders to shape how justice services should work in the future. You will identify whether problems are best addressed through technology, service or process redesign, information, policy or a combination of these. You will design systems and services that help the Judiciary administer, adjudicate and deliver justice more effectively, while making the experience easier to understand and navigate.
Bring people together
You will facilitate co-design and working sessions with judicial, legal, operational, technology and user groups to build alignment around better solutions. You will challenge assumptions constructively, communicate design decisions using research, data, prototypes and user perspectives, and create shared artefacts that help teams work from a common understanding.
Raise the bar for design
You will enforce design standards, patterns and practices that enable consistent, accessible experiences across Judiciary services. You will coach and mentor designers while improving how the team researches, designs, critiques and communicates its work. You will champion responsible use of AI and emerging tools to accelerate design while maintaining quality, accuracy and human judgement.
[What we are looking for]
Experience and craft
8+ years of experience in product design, service design, systems design or a related field, with significant experience leading complex products, services or systems
Strong portfolio demonstrating research, synthesis, interaction design, prototyping and delivery.
Experience designing complex workflows, professional users or high-stakes environments.
Strong systems-thinking ability and experience connecting user needs with organisational, operational and technology considerations.
Stakeholder leadership
Proven ability to facilitate alignment across groups with competing priorities and deeply held views.
Experience working with senior stakeholders and domain experts who are not design-literate.
Comfortable challenging assumptions and presenting design decisions with clarity and conviction.
Skilled at translating research and user needs into compelling narratives without oversimplifying complex issues.
Able to build trust and lead through influence rather than authority.
You are kind, direct and courageous in equal measure - willing to surface difficult problems while bringing people with you towards a better solution.
Ways of working
You think in systems but move quickly when the opportunity calls for it.
You maintain clear and accessible design artefacts so teams and stakeholders can work from a shared understanding of the current state.
You communicate problems early, propose solutions and take ownership of outcomes.
You thrive in ambiguity and can turn an unclear problem into a structured approach.
You value evidence over assumptions and are willing to change direction when the evidence changes.
You can balance user needs with legal, policy, operational and technology constraints.
Nice to have
Experience designing services that improve accessibility, inclusion or participation.
Experience working in or with the Singapore public sector.
Experience designing for people with different levels of digital literacy, professional knowledge or ability.
Experience using AI-assisted tools and emerging technologies in design.
What will make you stand out
You have improved how an entire service works, tackling complex problems that cross organisational, service or system boundaries.
You can turn complex rules, processes or information into experiences that people can understand and act upon, particularly for people who may not be familiar with the justice system.
You have successfully brought people with competing priorities around a shared direction and built design capabilities, systems or practices that create lasting value beyond your own involvement.
