About the Role

The Inventory Specialist is a key role within the Site Supply Chain team, responsible for ensuring effective inventory governance, optimization, and financial control across onsite operations, external warehouse locations, and the wider end-to-end supply chain.

Operating in a regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment, the role is accountable for maintaining inventory accuracy, minimizing inventory-related financial risk, driving working capital improvements, and supporting robust material flow from supplier through to customer.

The Inventory Controller plays a critical role in balancing customer service, inventory investment, compliance requirements, and operational efficiency by providing analytics, governance, and leadership for inventory performance across the site and external warehouse network.

Role Description

The Inventory Specialist will lead inventory management activities across raw materials, packaging components, work-in-progress, and finished goods inventory held onsite and at external warehouse locations.

The role is responsible for ensuring strong inventory governance, maintaining inventory accuracy, driving inventory optimization initiatives, and managing inventory-related financial performance. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with Planning, Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality, Finance, Warehouse Operations, Customer Service, and external logistics partners to improve inventory health, reduce waste, support working capital objectives, and enhance end-to-end supply chain performance.

The position serves as the site's subject matter expert for inventory management and will lead initiatives relating to inventory reduction, slow-moving and obsolete inventory management, inventory reconciliation, master data integrity, and continuous improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead inventory governance activities across onsite operations and external warehouse locations, ensuring inventory accuracy, visibility, and control throughout the end-to-end supply chain.
• Manage the site's Slow Moving and Obsolete Inventory (SLOB) process, including reporting, analysis, stakeholder engagement, action tracking, and governance reviews to minimize write-offs and improve working capital performance.
• Partner closely with Finance to monitor inventory valuation, inventory provisions, write-offs, inventory reserves, cost optimization opportunities, and inventory-related financial risks.
• Develop, monitor, and report inventory KPIs including inventory turns, inventory aging, stock accuracy, SLOB performance, cycle count compliance, expiry management, working capital performance, and service level impacts.
• Lead inventory optimization initiatives across raw materials, packaging components, work-in-progress, and finished goods inventory, identifying opportunities to reduce excess inventory while maintaining customer service and production continuity.
• Drive continuous improvement projects focused on inventory reduction, process simplification, data quality, planning parameter optimization, warehouse efficiency, and supply chain performance.
• Monitor inventory at risk including expiring, excess, blocked, restricted, quarantine, rejected, and obsolete materials, ensuring timely disposition decisions and risk mitigation actions are implemented.
• Conduct regular Gemba walks and process reviews to identify inventory-related issues, process inefficiencies, compliance gaps, and continuous improvement opportunities.
• Support inventory-related audits, investigations, deviations, CAPAs, and compliance activities while ensuring adherence to GMP, GDP, EHS, financial control requirements, and site procedures.
• Collaborate with Planning, Procurement, Manufacturing, Warehouse Operations, Quality, Finance, Customer Service, and external partners to balance inventory investment, operational requirements, and customer service objectives.
• Maintain and continuously improve inventory management processes, reporting tools, master data governance, SOPs, work instructions, and training materials.
• Support business continuity and risk management activities by identifying inventory-related risks, supply constraints, capacity limitations, material availability issues, and opportunities for supply chain resilience.
• Act as the site's inventory management subject matter expert, providing data-driven insights and recommendations to support operational and strategic decision-making.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential

• Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Operations Management, Finance, or a related discipline and/or 3+ years relevant experience in inventory management, materials management, planning, warehouse operations, or supply chain roles within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience managing inventory performance, stock accuracy, inventory analysis, and inventory reporting processes.
• Strong understanding of inventory control principles, working capital management, inventory valuation, stock optimization, and inventory-related financial metrics.
• Demonstrated ability to analyse complex inventory data, identify root causes, and drive sustainable corrective actions and process improvements.
• Experience working within a cross-functional environment involving Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, Finance, Procurement, and Warehouse Operations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret large datasets and translate findings into actionable business recommendations.
• Experience using ERP systems such as SAP and advanced Microsoft Excel skills for reporting, data analysis, and KPI management.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence decision-making across multiple levels of the organization.
• Knowledge of GMP requirements, quality systems, compliance expectations, and inventory controls within a regulated manufacturing environment.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and a high level of data accuracy.

Preferred

• Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Finance, Operations Management, or a related field with 5+ years of experience in inventory management, materials planning, supply chain analytics, warehouse operations, or manufacturing support functions.
• Experience within pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, medical device, consumer healthcare, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
• Strong understanding of inventory accounting principles, inventory valuation methodologies, financial reporting impacts, inventory reserves, and working capital improvement strategies.
• Experience leading inventory reduction, working capital, supply chain optimization, Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement projects.
• Advanced SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA experience, including inventory management, reporting, material master data, and supply chain transactions.
• Experience supporting audits, inventory investigations, deviation management, CAPA development, and regulatory inspections.
• Understanding of end-to-end supply chain processes including procurement, planning, manufacturing, warehousing, logistics, and customer fulfillment.
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent continuous improvement qualification.
• Experience developing business cases and leading cross-functional projects that deliver measurable operational and financial benefits.

EUR 48,826.00 - EUR 67,136.30 The salary range for this position is indicative and provided as a guide. The final offer may vary depending on factors including relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.
