Job Summary
We are seeking a Software Asset Management (SAM) / License Management Specialist to oversee software license compliance, optimization, and governance across the enterprise IT landscape. The role involves managing software assets throughout their lifecycle, ensuring license compliance, optimizing software utilization, supporting audits, and driving cost-effective license management practices across multiple vendors and platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the complete lifecycle of software assets, including procurement, deployment, utilization, renewal, and retirement.
Maintain accurate software inventory and entitlement records across enterprise environments.
Monitor software license consumption and ensure compliance with vendor licensing terms and agreements.
Conduct periodic license reconciliations and identify compliance risks.
Support internal and external software license audits from vendors such as Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, VMware, SAP, IBM, and others.
Collaborate with procurement, finance, IT operations, and vendors for software renewals and contract management.
Identify opportunities for software license optimization, re-harvesting, and cost reduction.
Prepare compliance and utilization reports for stakeholders and management.
Establish and maintain SAM processes, policies, and governance standards.
Track software renewals, maintenance agreements, subscriptions, and support contracts.
Support cloud licensing models including Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS, and SaaS platforms.
Participate in IT asset management initiatives and continuous process improvements.
Skill Requirements
3-8+ years of experience in Software Asset Management (SAM), IT Asset Management (ITAM), or License Management.
Strong understanding of software licensing models including perpetual, subscription, SaaS, user-based, device-based, and consumption-based licensing.
Experience working with major software vendors such as Microsoft, Oracle, Adobe, VMware, IBM, SAP, Red Hat, and ServiceNow.
Hands-on experience with SAM/ITAM tools such as ServiceNow SAM Pro, Flexera, Snow Software, Lansweeper, Ivanti, or ManageEngine Asset Explorer.
Knowledge of software compliance, license reconciliation, entitlement management, and audit preparation.
Experience analyzing license consumption data and generating utilization reports.
Understanding of software procurement and contract management processes.
Familiarity with ITIL processes including Incident, Change, Request, and Configuration Management.
Strong analytical, reporting, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
Knowledge of cloud licensing and subscription management for M365, Azure, AWS, and SaaS applications.
Other Requirements
Certifications such as ITIL Foundation, CSAM, CHAMP, CITAM, Microsoft Licensing, or Flexera certifications.
Experience with ServiceNow SAM Pro implementation or administration.
Exposure to FinOps and Cloud Cost Management practices.
Knowledge of CMDB, discovery tools, and asset lifecycle automation.
Experience supporting global software compliance programs.
Familiarity with Power BI, Excel analytics, and automation using PowerShell or Python.
Exposure to vendor negotiations, contract renewals, and optimization strategies
