Job Title: Java Backend Lead
Role Overview
Lead the design and delivery of scalable Java backend services using Spring Boot, microservices, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Kubernetes. Combine hands-on development with technical leadership, mentoring, and ownership of backend quality and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain Java/Spring Boot microservices and REST APIs.
Define service boundaries, API contracts, integration patterns, and technical standards.
Deploy and manage containerized applications on GCP using Docker and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).
Lead technical discussions, code reviews, solution design, and development estimates.
Mentor developers and collaborate with product, QA, DevOps, and architecture teams.
Implement security, automated testing, logging, monitoring, and performance improvements.
Troubleshoot production issues and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Support CI/CD pipelines and ensure timely delivery of maintainable solutions.
Required Skills
Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, Spring Security, and JPA/Hibernate.
Expertise in microservices, REST APIs, distributed systems, and event-driven architecture.
Practical GCP experience, including GKE, Pub/Sub, Cloud SQL, IAM, and Cloud Logging/Monitoring.
Strong knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker, including deployments, scaling, configuration, and troubleshooting.
Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases, messaging platforms, and caching technologies.
Knowledge of resilience patterns such as retries, timeouts, circuit breakers, and idempotency.
Experience with Git, Maven/Gradle, CI/CD pipelines, and unit/integration testing.
Proven technical leadership, stakeholder communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills
Experience with high-volume ecommerce or enterprise applications.
