HCSS is a Texas company founded in 1986 that builds software for heavy civil construction. Its products cover estimating, project management, fleet maintenance and safety for contractors. Thousands of infrastructure builders use its systems.

We’re HCSS. We’re a software company based in Sugar Land, TX providing innovative solutions that help streamline operations for construction companies. Our mission at HCSS is to help customers dramatically improve their business through our innovative, high-quality software and exceptionally helpful service while providing a great life for our employees. We’re recognized as a pioneer and leader in our market, and one of the “Best Companies to Work for in Texas” 16 years in a row.

WHO WE NEED:

Are you a Computer Science Graduate (or any similar logical discipline) who’s early in your Development career, but feels your tech skills have stagnated? At HCSS, we’ll PAY and TEACH you to grow with us as a Software Developer, building software products for the construction industry.

During your first three months, you’ll go through a rigorous training program learning .NET programming and completing assignments to demonstrate a command of languages, libraries, and other programming tools. We keep our class sizes small so you have more 1:1 attention with the instructor.

If you're a fit, the following things should sound like you:

  • You are a problem solver and have the ability to think logically and communicate clearly
  • You learn quickly and take the initiative to utilize resources outside of what is provided in order to succeed
  • Looking to grow your career further within Software Development

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interact with a team of 3-6 developers and other stakeholders to develop features that enhance your assigned software product
  • Produce code that follows current team coding standards (syntax, naming, etc.)
  • Test your own code to ensure there are no obvious defects before committing
  • Receive critical feedback on your work openly and improve/correct your code as needed
  • Advance your knowledge of programming languages, libraries, and tools used by your team
  • Develop a working knowledge of your product(s)’ existing architecture
  • Learn and apply existing software patterns in your work
  • Assist debugging for support escalations and in teammates’ code
  • Grow your understanding of Agile development methodology by contributing to team meetings

WHY WORK WITH OUR DEVELOPMENT TEAM?

  • Build products of real value. We work as partners with our customers from the construction industry by understanding their problems and offering modern technical solutions.
  • Freedom to fail. We focus more on someone’s strengths than their current title or role. People are encouraged to offer unexpected solutions that challenge the normal way of doing things.
  • Be a mentor and coach. We see every employee as worthy of investment, and we value people who can teach and motivate the team around them.
  • Work and fun. You are more than just the code you write. We foster an atmosphere where teams frequently organize activities and get-togethers.

BENEFITS & PERKS:

Part of our mission statement is to provide a great life for our employees. We believe that happy employees make for a better company, so we take care of them. Here are a few of the perks we offer:

  • Flexibility for you to work in-office, hybrid or remote.
  • Medical and Dental Premiums.
  • On-site amenities including a covered basketball court, soccer field, 200-meter track, etc.
  • Dog-friendly campus.
  • 401K with match.
  • Tuition reimbursement.
  • And more!
