IKEA is the global home furnishing brand founded in Sweden in 1943, and its main website is operated by Inter IKEA Systems, the worldwide IKEA franchisor based in Delft in the Netherlands. The wider Inter IKEA Group develops the product range and runs purchasing, supply and manufacturing operations, including IKEA Industry factories in Poland and Portugal, while franchisees such as Ingka Group operate IKEA stores worldwide. Its openings span production workers, forklift operators, maintenance and PLC technicians, design and embedded software engineers, business developers at purchasing offices, transport planners, finance staff and store co-workers.

IKEA of Sweden has a vibrant culture where ideas are heard, where there is opportunity to learn new skills and where the goal always is "to create a better everyday life for the many people".

In Range Area Seating, we are a diverse group of down-to-earth, straightforward people with a passion for home furnishing. We develop safe and affordable solutions for a beautiful, playful and more convenient life at home.

Join our group of passionate and highly skilled colleagues that are as curious and eager as you to explore and make things better, always searching for new simple and smart solutions! Solutions that are connected to comfort, that means you will work across with Beds, mattresses, sofas and seating products.

The platform comfort team work with developments that aim to lower cost, create better products and improve the life at home through standardization, optimization and new development of solutions for beds, sofas & mattresses.

We are strengthening simulation-driven product development at IKEA of Sweden and are looking for an FEA Engineer to join the Comfort Platform team within Range Area Seating.

The purpose of the role is to enable faster development of innovative and robust products by optimizing designs, predicting product performance and validating behaviour while reducing reliance on physical prototypes.

  • Perform implicit and explicit non-linear finite element analyses to predict product and solution behaviour, including large-displacement problems.
  • Apply CAE methods such as topology, topography, shape and parameter optimization to improve product and solution designs.
  • Develop and validate material models, simulation parameters, load cases, boundary conditions and safety factors to ensure reliable and fact-based results.
  • Establish and continuously improve methods and routines for FEA simulations, and verify simulation results together with test engineers through physical product and solution testing.
  • Collaborate with external industry and university partners within the area of expertise and contribute actively to the IKEA simulation network.

To be successful in this role, we would like to see that you have:

  • At least five years of experience working with structural linear and non-linear analysis methods, including verification testing.
  • Strong experience in material modelling and in both implicit and explicit analysis for complex and large-displacement problems.
  • Good knowledge of relevant simulation and pre-processing tools; at IKEA we currently use HyperMesh and LS-DYNA.
  • Experience developing clear technical reports, engineering guidelines and structured working methods, together with knowledge of statistical methods and design of experiments.
  • A university degree in engineering or equivalent, with the ability to work closely with development teams and translate simulation insights into practical design improvements.

This is a permanent position based in Älmhult, Sweden. Älmhult has commuting possibilities with hourly trains to Malmö, Lund and Växjö and an IKEA shuttle bus back and forth to Helsingborg three times a day.

To simplify and have good speed in the recruitment process, you apply for the role by uploading your CV (in english) in Smart Recruiters, including your answers to these questions (no motivational letter needed):

  • Why do you think your experience as a FEA engineer is relevant to IKEA?
  • How do you think IKEA's calculations differ from those you have done before and how do you think you need to adapt?
  • Why do you think you would be a good fit at IKEA?

We really want to get to know you! The last day to send your application is October 9th 2026.

If you have any questions regarding the position, you are welcome to contact Hiring Manager, Amilia Tångne, +46723528749. If you have questions regarding the recruitment process, please contact People and Culture Recruiter, Johanna Hansson at [email protected]
