ING is a Dutch banking group formed in 1991 by the merger of the postal bank NMB Postbank and the insurer Nationale-Nederlanden, and it was among the first large banks to build a direct, branch-light retail model. It serves retail customers in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Spain and several other markets through mobile-first banking, and runs a substantial wholesale bank covering lending, transaction services and financial markets for corporate clients. Headquartered in Amsterdam and listed on Euronext, the group divested its insurance operations after the financial crisis to focus on banking.

About the position:

Operating within the Financial Accounting Team, this role is designed for a financial professional who excels at connecting the dots across complex global banking products and a global organization. The successful candidate will leverage advanced data analysis and business intelligence tools to optimize, test, and modernize Wholesale Banking financial, regulatory, and liquidity reporting workflows.

About the department:

The Finance department’s key responsibility is management of the financial aspects of the Wholesale Banking business line. Complete and accurate presentation of financial, regulatory, and liquidity reporting for the Americas Region in accordance with applicable ING Group policies & procedures, accounting, and regulatory frameworks is our primary responsibility. It is our mission to maintain a holistic and robust reporting environment with accurate financial data and a substantial control framework. This role currently operates on a hybrid framework, requiring a minimum of two (2) days per week onsite at our New York City office.

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting delivery: Prepare and review the end-to-end production of compliant Head-Office Consolidated Financials and ECB Regulatory Reporting.
  • BI dashboard development: Build, maintain, and optimize Power BI dashboards and data visualizations to transform raw accounting data from core ledgers (e.g., Oracle PeopleSoft, SAP) into dynamic financial reports.
  • Data-driven variance analysis: Perform deep-dive balance sheet, income statement, and off-balance sheet variance analysis, utilizing business intelligence tools to isolate data anomalies and explain financial movements.
  • UAT & project testing: Actively participate in and execute User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and validation protocols for reporting infrastructure projects, systems migrations, and automated dashboard rollouts.
  • Process optimization: Streamline reporting workflows by reducing reliance on manual spreadsheets, designing clean data pipelines, and implementing automated validation checks.
  • Financial data ownership: Take proactive ownership of the quality, reliability, and audit trail of financial reports, ensuring backend data mappings are clean and well-documented.
  • Stakeholder liaison: Actively collaborate and liaise across multiple Finance teams, Risk, Treasury, Operations, Front Office, and internal/external auditors to resolve data dependencies.
  • Strategic advisory: Translate complex variance analyses and dashboard insights into highly actionable recommendations for Senior Management and Business Heads.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Experience: 4+ years in financial reporting, regulatory reporting, or a combined banking accounting function with a strong portfolio of data visualization work.
  • Regulatory & framework expertise: Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting concepts related to Wholesale Banking products. Direct experience with IFRS frameworks and European regulatory reports (e.g., FINREP, LCR DA, or ECB Stress Testing) is preferred. Knowledge of US GAAP is highly ideal.
  • Academic background: Degree in Accounting or Finance; a CPA or equivalent professional certification is highly preferred.
  • Data analysis & BI skills: Hands-on experience building and deploying interactive Power BI dashboards; familiarity with data modeling and mapping unstructured data into structured visualizations.
  • Tech stack: High proficiency in the MS Office Suite; working knowledge of SQL or Python for backend data manipulation is a major plus alongside Power BI.
  • AI & innovation mindset: An open, adaptable mindset toward leveraging generative AI assistants (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) to accelerate code writing, debug complex formulas, and automate routine documentation.
  • Accountability: Demonstrates strict accountability and a proven ability to deliver high-quality, reliable outcomes.
  • Problem-solving: Positive, proactive mindset with strong analytical skills and independent thinking capabilities to isolate data anomalies.
  • Detail orientation: Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure a clean audit trail.
  • Communication & presence: Clear, concise, and accurate communication skills (both written and verbal), with a distinct ability to tell a financial story visually through data to non-finance audiences and Senior Management.
