ING is a Dutch banking group formed in 1991 by the merger of the postal bank NMB Postbank and the insurer Nationale-Nederlanden, and it was among the first large banks to build a direct, branch-light retail model. It serves retail customers in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Spain and several other markets through mobile-first banking, and runs a substantial wholesale bank covering lending, transaction services and financial markets for corporate clients. Headquartered in Amsterdam and listed on Euronext, the group divested its insurance operations after the financial crisis to focus on banking.

ING is a global financial institution with a strong European base, offering banking services through a balanced mix of retail, wholesale, and digital channels. Sound management of financial risks is central to ING’s strategy, resilience, and long-term value creation.

About the role

As a Financial Risk Specialist - IRRBB Analytics & Insights, you will strengthen the second line analytics capability within the Banking Book Risk function.

You will focus on deep analytical assessment of IRRBB risk drivers across ING’s balance sheet, supporting risk oversight, challenging first line proposals, and enabling informed decision-making at senior management level.

The role combines quantitative analysis, Python tooling development, and risk insight generation, with exposure to ALCO and senior risk committee submissions.

Key responsibilities

IRRBB analytics and insights

  • Perform in-depth analysis of ING’s IRRBB risk drivers (EVE, NII, behavioural models, hedging impacts)

  • Assess and interpret movements in balance sheet risk profile across products and entities

  • Generate actionable insights on IRRBB developments to support risk steering and decision-making

Tooling and data analytics

  • Design and develop Python-based analytical tools for IRRBB monitoring, scenario analysis, and deep dives

  • Improve and automate existing analysis workflows to enable faster and more robust insights

  • Translate business and risk questions into scalable analytical solutions

Second line challenge

  • Critically review and challenge first line proposals on:

    • Model calibration (e.g. behavioural assumptions, replication portfolios)

    • Hedging strategies and structural positioning

  • Scenario design and stress testing approaches

  • Provide independent quantitative assessment and recommendations

Balance sheet and hedging analysis

  • Analyse the impact of hedging strategies on IRRBB metrics and risk profile

  • Support evaluation of alternative strategies and calibration approaches

  • Contribute to improving consistency between modelling, risk measurement, and business decisions

Reporting and senior management support

  • Prepare high-quality analysis, materials, and narratives for:

    • ALCO

    • Risk committees

    • Senior management discussions

  • Translate complex analytics into clear, decision-relevant messages

Collaboration and stakeholder management

  • Work closely with Group Treasury, Risk, Modelling, and local entities

  • Act as a key analytics partner within the IRRBB function

  • Contribute to strengthening data-driven decision making across teams

How to succeed

We hire smart people like you for your potential. Our biggest expectation is that you’ll stay curious. Keep learning. Take on responsibility. In return, we’ll back you to develop into an even more awesome version of yourself.

  • Master’s degree in finance, Econometrics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field

  • ~2-5 years of relevant experience in IRRBB, ALM or Banking Book Risk

  • Experience working with IRRBB models and analytics (e.g. EVE, NII, behavioural models)

  • Strong Python programming skills, with ability to build analytical tools and handle large datasets

  • Experience in balance sheet analysis is a plus

  • Strong analytical mindset, with ability to connect numbers to business implications

  • Experience preparing materials for senior stakeholders is a strong plus

  • Comfortable working in an international environment with multiple stakeholders

What will help you succeed in this role

  • Ability to go beyond calculations and explain the story behind the numbers

  • Strong ownership mindset: from analysis → insight → challenge → recommendation

  • Pragmatic approach: balancing analytical depth with business relevance

  • Confidence to challenge stakeholders constructively and independently

  • Ability to structure and communicate complex topics in a simple way

Why ING?

  • A central role in shaping IRRBB insights and balance sheet steering

  • High visibility with senior management and key risk committees

  • Opportunity to combine analytics, modelling, and real business impact

  • Work in a highly skilled, international risk environment

  • Strong focus on growth in both technical and strategic capabilities
