About the position:
ING is looking for a Senior IT Engineer - Core Banking Platform to support and operate critical core banking services for the US market. This role is focused on the engineering, operation, and continuous improvement of a business-critical core banking platform, with responsibility for production stability, operational readiness, and service reliability. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise across application operations, platform support, incident resolution, and continuous service improvement within a business-critical banking environment.
The role combines platform engineering, production operations, technical investigation, operational controls, and banking domain knowledge.
The engineer will support account management services, banking products, payment and settlement processing, end-of-day activities, and critical operational controls within a mission-critical banking environment. The primary expectation is strong IT engineering capability, analytical problem-solving skills, and experience supporting business-critical applications in a production environment.
About the department:
You will be part of the Global Account Management and Core Banking Technology area supporting the US banking landscape. You will collaborate with teams across the United States, the Netherlands, Belgium, India, and the Philippines to ensure reliable operation of core banking services and support future business growth. This role requires close collaboration with business users, operations teams, product specialists, vendors, and technology teams to maintain stable and resilient banking services.
Responsibilities:
Platform Operations & Production Support
- Provide L2/L3 support for production incidents and operational issues.
- Investigate service disruptions and perform root cause analysis.
- Support release, deployment, and change management activities.
- Monitor platform stability, performance, and operational readiness.
- Maintain operational procedures, runbooks, and support documentation.
- Coordinate issue resolution across application, database, infrastructure, vendor, and business teams.
- Participate in major incident and problem management activities.
Banking Platform Engineering
- Support account management and banking product services.
- Investigate and resolve both technical and functional issues related to account management, banking products, payments, and settlement services.
- Support current accounts, savings accounts, overdrafts, interest processing, and related banking services.
- Analyze business and system issues across product configuration, transaction processing, and operational workflows.
- Develop expertise in supported banking products and processes to independently troubleshoot and resolve operational and functional incidents.
- Collaborate with business, operations, and engineering teams to deliver sustainable solutions and service improvements.
Payments & Settlement Services
- Support payment processing and settlement-related services.
- Investigate payment exceptions and settlement issues.
- Develop knowledge of US payment networks and settlement processes.
- Support operational, reporting, and regulatory-related requirements.
- Contribute to future payment modernization initiatives, including real-time payment capabilities.
Technical Engineering & Troubleshooting
- Perform SQL-based investigation and analysis.
- Investigate application logs, databases, interfaces, and transaction flows.
- Support Linux-based application environments.
- Troubleshoot REST API, SOAP, and integration-related issues.
- Supporting technical improvements and automation initiatives where beneficial.
Continuous Improvement
- Improve monitoring, alerting, and operational controls.
- Enhance platform supportability and operational efficiency.
- Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge management.
- Support engineering and platform improvement initiatives.
- Develop expertise in supported banking applications and business processes.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant IT engineering, application operations, or production support experience.
- Experience supporting regulated, complex enterprises and business-critical applications.
- Strong SQL troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Willingness to learn new technologies, platforms, and banking processes.
- Linux or Unix platform experience.
- Experience in Incident, Problem, and Change Management.
- Experience troubleshooting APIs, integrations, and distributed systems.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a production environment.
Preferred
- Banking or financial services technology experience.
- Experience supporting transaction processing platforms.
- Knowledge of current accounts, savings accounts, and banking operations.
- Understanding of payment processing and settlement services.
- Experience supporting end-of-day activities and operational controls.
- REST API and SOAP integration experience.
- Experience with core banking platforms such as Finacle, Temenos, FLEXCUBE, FIS, Fiserv, or similar systems.
- Oracle database experience.
- JavaScript or scripting experience.
- Experience supporting regulatory or operational reporting processes.
- Exposure to Azure DevOps or similar tooling.
Hourly Rate: $79-102
