How will you make an impact?
Supervises and directs all activities and employees in Inventory Control.
What will you do?
Recruitment and Retention
- Recruit and interview Inventory Control staff.
- Communicate criteria to recruiters for Inventory Control position candidates.
- Coach Inventory Control staff in the interviewing/hiring process.
- Monitor team member turnover; identify key factors that can be improved and implement improvements.
Employee and Team Development
- Identify individual and team strengths and development needs on an ongoing basis.
- Create and/or validate training curriculum in area of responsibility.
- Coach and mentor Inventory Control staff to deliver excellence to every internal and external customer.
- Create and manage succession plans for the Inventory Control function.
Performance Management
- Establish clear measurable goals and objectives by which to determine individual and team results.
- Solicit ongoing feedback from Workcell Manager (WCM), Business Unit Manager (BUM), peers, and team members regarding contributions to the Workcell team.
- Provide ongoing coaching and counseling to team members based on feedback.
- Express pride in staff and encourage them to feel good about their accomplishments.
- Perform team member evaluations professionally and on time.
- Drive individuals and the team to continuously improve key operational metrics and achieve organizational goals.
- Coordinate activities of large teams and keep them focused during times of crisis.
- Ensure recognition and rewards are managed fairly and consistently within the area of responsibility.
Communication
- Provide a weekly communication forum for the exchange of ideas and information within the department.
- Organize verbal and written ideas clearly and use an appropriate business style.
- Ask questions and encourage input from staff.
- Assess communication styles of individual team members and adapt communication style accordingly.
Business Strategy and Direction
- Know and understand campus strategic directions.
- Define, develop, and implement an Inventory Control strategy that contributes to campus strategic objectives.
- Develop an understanding of the Workcell business strategy as it pertains to Inventory Control.
- Provide regular updates to the BUM, WCM, and Operations Manager on strategy execution.
Cost Management
- Identify creative ways to reduce costs by streamlining processes and systems.
- Utilize tools to monitor departmental costs and cost trends while continuously improving value.
- Provide feedback to BUMs, WCMs, and Functional Managers regarding cost and cost trends.
Technical Management Responsibilities
- Monitor department performance and ensure optimum performance through existing procedures or development of revised procedures.
- Drive inspection out of the process and increase the percentage of dock-to-stock material.
- Drive the shortest processing time possible on all received material and continually improve processing performance.
- Recommend overtime or other recovery methods as necessary.
- Maintain appropriate levels of operational supplies and support equipment.
- Ensure all tools, equipment, and visual aids are in proper working order and at the latest revision level.
- Provide frequent and accurate feedback to Inventory Control and Quality departments and assist with problem-solving activities related to schedules, equipment, documentation, and personnel.
- Interface with departmental supervisors, support functions, engineering, program management, and other plant operations functions.
- Supervise and coordinate activities related to verifying and maintaining records of outgoing shipments, including shipment verification and inspection.
- Ensure accuracy of record keeping and physical inventory within the stockroom.
- Ensure the production line receives the correct parts for manufacturing.
- Ensure all material is stocked promptly and accurately.
- Eliminate errors that impact departmental budget performance and operational efficiency.
- Recommend capital equipment and staffing changes where appropriate.
- Adhere to all safety and health rules and regulations associated with this position.
- Comply with all procedures within the company security policy.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
How will you get here?
Education:
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Or a combination of education, experience, and/or training.
Experience:
- Five years of relevant experience required.
- Experience in inventory control, materials management, logistics, warehouse operations, or manufacturing environments preferred.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- U.S. Citizenship required to work at this specific site.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and communicate scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, and members of the business community.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management.
- Advanced PC skills, including knowledge of Jabil software packages.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and manage a variety of variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Strong knowledge of global and regional logistics operations and industry.
- Strong proficiency in determining logistics requirements to support business goals and objectives.
- Ability to devise and implement strategies to achieve operational targets.
- Strong financial and analytical ability.
- Proficiency in managing business analytics to determine optimum company footprint.
- Strong knowledge of international direct and indirect taxes and global customs regimes.
- Proven track record of successful change management, continuous productivity improvement, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Strong and convincing communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and email.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain, Business, Logistics, Operations Management, or a related field.
- Experience supervising inventory control operations in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with ERP systems, inventory transactions, cycle counting, and inventory accuracy programs.
- Knowledge of warehouse operations, shipping/receiving processes, and material control systems.
- Experience leading continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and inventory management best practices.
